To gr5's point, if the friend is smart enough to determine the cards are fake, you're right, he could just ship them back.
But the seller could always then say that they were swapped out, and try cause a nightmare for the friend, or claim cards were lost in the mail, etc...
Anyone that is trying to sell tens of thousands of dollars in fake cards is not someone you want to have a relationship with...in any form, regardless of perceived risk.

Am I reading this correct or is everyone just missing this point, it's clearly worth a shot if your buddy gets the card first, then gets to pay. How would he get scammed in this situation? So the guy gives him a card that's not legit, your friend simply gives it back. I don't see how he can loose...

That should be enough warning to steer anyone away. There's no way anyone would be fine with sending off a $15k+ card prior to payment.

There was a topic on this scam a year or so ago. That Goudey Ruth was the card I remember being mentioned. A local guy here got taken and PSA told him they were definite fakes. I think RipkenFF Collector had a link to the story as I remeber it made National news and was being investigated by the FBI.

upon looking over the scan again there is a 98% chance those holders where cracked and other cards placed inside. The hint is in the sides of the cases and how cloudy they are.

The people in this thread are crazy. If the guy is sending first there is NO risk. Are there still people on the boards that cant tell if the card was cracked out of the case. Come on let him send it. The reward is worth very little risk. Do the deal.

I talked to the owner of the cards on the phone, if the cards are fake, he is clueless. Kid was just plain dumb, and just wants 9000
to buy a mercedes. His rich uncle died and left most to his wife, and a few things to relatives. so all that is left is the cards are fake.
wish someone had a link to the story of other psa cards

The only reason thre seller would send first is because he knows he can't unload these fakes on ebay or anywhere else as the craigslist scam has been outted by most people in the hobby. The seller is now trying to find "reputable" dealers to sell his fakes to others and thereby removing himself from the transaction. He is just hoping the buyer can find someone ignorant enough to buy his fakes and will absolutely disappear once the scam goes south.

Good luck in selling fake cards and then 2 months later getting a person charging it back on their credit card and then trying to track down the orginal seller again. You will eventually get left holding the bag and believe me people get pretty upset over buying 10K fakes.

I've heard that story before....

He's just playing dumb to fool you into thinking he has no clue.

Just tell him he must send all the cards first, then re-send them all to PSA and have them checked out again. If they come back OK, pay.

It amazes me that greed still makes me people fall for these scams. ::facepalm::

nobody fell for anything, and if someone was hurting and had a real mantle 6.5, i wouldnt offer
much more than 9000 either with the potential headache involved even if it was real. Not that easy to
just flip a 5 figure card, and who knows how long my 9k is tied up. Not sure what made you say
greed was involved.

I would be weary of the spacing between text lines on the PSA slabs.. the font doesn't look quite like a traditional PSA slab.

If it comes down to the only issue being the cards are fake you could have him ship you a few, send them to PSA for a reslab and let the truth be told.

EDIT: Damn you Ty...always a thought ahead of me ::facepalm::
