I'm sure all the debates will resurface again with those players that didnt make it but as far as managers these 3 men earned their spots. IMO.

Maine of course......
This was hard to track on line as I thought MLB.com or the Hall would show this live. Not surprised they all were selected since they hold various managerial records or are all at top of certain managerial stats.

Congrats to all 3!!

Marvin Miller overlooked again.......

The 1969 set gains another HOF rookie card. Congrats to all 3, (and yes Miller's exclusion is criminal).

So, to clarify:

If you are a player who gets caught taking steroids, you are kept out of the Hall of Fame.

If you are a manager who accumulates wins and World Series titles on the shoulders of steroid users, you are put into the Hall of Fame, unanimously.

Good to know.

There is little logic in your stance. So, with your line of thought should any manager from the era when Greenies(amphetamines) were being used get in?
I think those three are automatics. If Torre is judged just on his managerial career im not sure (this coming from a Yankee fan) but when his playing days and his managerial record are put together then he is a no-brainer.
And I too think it is criminal that Marvin Miller is not in.

I think if a manager was found to have encouraged players to use steroids we'd have something to discuss. Otherwise I'm not sure why it should affect the manager's standing.

With managers the whole thing is a little tricky. With the owner determining how much he is willing to spend, and the GM picking the players who are on the team, and the players actually having to perform, it's really tricky trying to figure out what impact a manager had. I have to imagine there were managers on awful teams who would have been great if they had a shot at managing a team with a bigger payroll (and better signings) and visa versa.

I've wondered aloud for years why certain managers (LaRussa) and a certain commissioner (Selig) have always been given a free pass.

Yes, when Selig gets in (and I think he is the single biggest lock there is), we can have this conversation in earnest.
