I just watched a whatnot show last night hosted by a local card shop I used to visit pretty frequently, but over the last couple years have not due to distance. They are a great shop and the show offered a pretty decent variety of new and old, autos, game used, rookies, low end and some higher end. They took requests and listed something for just about every one except for one that really stood out (Cesar Cedeno - had to chuckle at that one, the person listed him 3-4 times in the comments before they finally said they had nothing to list). All were auctioned starting at $1 and they seemed to get really strong pricing for most of it. For example, a 1984 Donruss Gwynn sold for over $10 if I recall correctly.
Between this and watching some of the items being auctioned on Facebook groups, it really made me wonder who these buyers are.
Either I am completely out of touch with values of the stuff I grew up collecting or it seems to me that buyers are really overpaying for some pretty common stuff out there. Go to eBay for the same stuff and dozens of copies sit unsold and lower BIN prices. What am I missing here? How about that Score Bo Jackson B&W football gear pose card? People seem to go bonkers for that card that was basically a common from a massively overproduced set.
Anyone a frequent seller on either platform that has some experience to confirm or debunk this?
