Do Homer Bailey and write

FCB sponsors him because he flopped ... just like Beckett.

FCB proudly sponsors Mel Ott, the youngest player to hit 30 and 40 homeruns in a season, and most runs created in a season under 20 years old.

Just noticed that quite a few of the World Series winning team listings are available; 04 Red Sox, 96 Yankees, 98 Yankees, 92 Blue Jays, 61 Yankees, 34 Cardinals and I assume a bunch more that I didn't check.

I prefer thebaseballcube.com for sponsorships.

You can add banners to the page.
WTH is baseballcube??
My question too. If baseballreference.com is THE site, why use another? Especially to spend money on.
Just went on it, worst baseball stats site EVER.

I typed in Mel Ott and like 15 players showed up. Clicked on Mel Ott and I went to this page with ads and it wouldn't let me get to his page LOL.

It is more expensive and the site looks like one big ad. I just got an ad I had to click through, or wait 15 seconds, to actually get to the player page I tried going to.

For a while, thebaseballcube.com was a good site because it was the only one that had a decent history of minor league stats. However, BR has now added that, so I never go to TBC anymore.

Much nicer layout imo.

Baseball reference looks a little to old school internet.
I'd much rather have simplicity and have all the stats then some 'nicer' layout with less content and more annoying banners and ads. JMO

Ok, I need a writeup for Mel Ott

:-)
Mel Ott..the greatest New York Giants hitter of all time and he did it steroid free. Visit FCB today!

Ha.
Meh...keep the roids out of it. He was still the greatest NYG hitter ever...so long as you consider Mays to be a SFG man.

Bill Terry might have an argument...
Not even close, imo. But he does have the high average going for him.

And Mays has a slight edge on Ott, with their OPS+ just 1 point apart. [But yes, Mays is a SFG man]

Actually for most of his career Mays was considered a NY man, he wasn't welcomed in SF with open arms, much like Bonds of his era, he was rude to the media and did all he could to keep to himself. SF embraced home grown talent like McCovey, Cepeda and Jimmy Davenport. Mays even went back to NY with the Mets at the end of his career when he was traded for a sub-par player and cash. It wasn't until recently that SF has began to love Willie like he should have been from the start.

Plus for all of his tools, Mays is in the top 3 players of all time, he lost time to the Korean War and he played in Candlestick before it was enclosed, meaning he lost homeruns because the wind blew in terribly from left field. He'd have easily pasted Ruth and out paced Aaron who played in a home run happy ball park toward the end of his career. I can't say Ott would be in the top 5 players ever.

Not sure where I said that, I just stated how close thier OPS+ are.

And sure Mays might have been considered a NY man, but you can't say he was the best NYG player of all time, because he wasn't.
