? will there still be a view new posts button?
yes, the "whats new" button is a view new posts button

additionally the new topics have a summary on the right
I think he's talking about this button
icon_topic_newest.gif
next to each topic in each forum.

This is how I navigate the board as well.

I have to agree with those here that are saying they like the colors of the current forums. I feel that FCB, and all the functionalty the website side of your business has, has created a unique brand with it's logo's, colors, etc... Although the software change is necessary, brand allteration is probably not. I know vBull is highly customizable, so please give some thought to sticking with the same color patterns (and the muted background as well).

Thanks and I look forward to the new site.

I agree the envelope icons need to be smaller and I think the thread titles could stand to stick out a little more than the info that is displayed below them. Overall not too shabby. I'm not big on change but in this case it sounds needed and I'm sure we'll all get use to it in short order. I appreciate the fact that FCB is not resting on its laurels

Just so we are completely transparent on the new site.

On 4/15 we are going to shut the forums down for about 6 hours why we migrate all of the data from the current forums to the new version.

If you have made any new posts or reset your password on the current new site, all of the data will be wiped on 4/15.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD AGAIN ON 4/15. No matter if you already did it today. As bouwob mentioned, please make sure you have your current email updated on here so that we can send you an email reminder and link to request a new password once the site is done.

All of your posts, stats, and profile information will carry over to the new site.

While the new site software does allow for multiple themes, I don't see us maintaining multiple themes to cater to everyone wants. Aside from a mobile theme (which kicks ass out-of-the-box), the main site theme can be tweaked along the way.

Thanks for any feedback on the site transfer, this really is our best play for the long term of the site. We have simply outgrown our previous software, and rather than spend months and months of trying to optimize the inadequacies of the software, we simply choose to upgrade and move on to bigger and better things.

Another thing I want everyone to understand is that this is and will be a work in progress even after the cut date.

We will constantly try and get better.

I agree with some of the comments and would recommend the following changes:

1. Change the white background to the light blue that the stickies are. Perhaps the stickies could be a darker blue to differentiate from the regular threads.
2. Maybe make thread topic titles a larger font or at least bold them so they stand out a little more. Right now, they really blend in with all of the other info on the page.
3. Not sure why, but some sigs appeared crazy BIG on my iPhone when I looked at it. Is there anything that can regulate sig sizes on the phone?

Thanks for making the site better and you never hear it enough, but thanks again for all of the hard work you put into FCB.

I said when this site started VBulletin was necessary and here we are finally.. I agree with others that the site as it is now is difficult to read. if you can get this current FCB bacground and just bold the thread titles more it will be much easier. reduce the size of the envelopes as well and put a bold name where the thread started line is under the specific thread. Alot of times when I scroll the page quick looking for a thread I look for who started it but on the new forum everything just blends making that much more difficult.

I don't like change, so I don't like the new site. I like the look, colors, location of buttons/links, sizing of this site better. There is a chance if things were going from that site to this site I'd say the same thing.

I'm just glad we are given plenty of time to do what we need to for the site change. Most sites would just update the stuff without any advanced warning... I'm glad FCB isn't most sites :D

So does this affect the FCB app also?

Yes, but not on your end.

That mobile app is being revamped though and will be a full feature sports card app soon.

A couple of comments:

Topic list (from within a forum):

In the table cell with the thread title, ditch the 'Started by {author}, {date} or if possible make those appear in the next column over like in the current site. The addition of the thread details right below the thread title makes the column too busy and makes it harder on the eyes to quickly scan thread titles. As others mentioned you could bold the thread titles but I think that removing the extra thread details will also help to pop the thread titles.

Thread page:

For posts with nested quoted threads, consider reducing the amount of horizontal padding added to each nesting layer. For example in this post:

http://dev.freedomcardboard.com/threads ... ost1650316

The nesting of quotes on the current site is about right both spacing/padding wise and color scheme wise.

Styles:

Overall feels like a bit too much blue for link colors and various background elements. Possibly use a more muted blue in places and/or consider other complementary colors.

Font size: I know for others this may differ but I'd prefer the smaller font sizes that the current size has vs the larger font sizes across the board on the new site. I prefer to see as much info on the screen as I can before having to scroll (within reason) and the current site's font size scheme works well for me.

Don't like that when I get to the end of a thread I either have to:

Scroll back to the top, and then hit baseball.
Hit the Top button, and then hit baseball.
Or open the drop-down box and then hit baseball.

I like that at the bottom of every page here, you can either hit "baseball" or "board index" and get where you're going.

This has always been why I spend so little time on CU and Blowout, because their sites are a p.i.t.a to navigate compared to FCB.

And seriously, this button...
icon_topic_newest.gif
...I need it...
