I wrote for a college newspaper and have had a by-line in national papers, so I would be game. Thing is, I would prefer to be directed as to what to write. I found I worked better with editorial direction and when writing things based off of research. If you want to give out "assignments", that would get me started.

Yeah, I can't give topics.

Picking subjects is half the battle.

I've recently created my own site after being employed as a hobby related writer/editor, but I'd be willing to also publish my work here if you find something you like or think could work well for FCB. If an arrangement like this could fit in to what your looking for, I can link you to something recent for your consideration and we could go from there.

Thanks. :)

Edit: just to add I write about anything and everything hobby/sports related.

I'd be interested in writing a column about the gems and junk I pull out of boxes at shows (call it Tales From the Dime Box or something similarly dumb). Everytime I hit a show I spend most of my time poring through dime boxes, ending up with a mix of PC cards, cheap beat up vintage, great 90's inserts, and undervalued RCs and stars that are worth grabbing for a dime. My (hypothetical) column would be a random sampling of these cards, and my random thoughts on them. Lots of 90's insert talk, failed prospects from long ago, where are they now stories, bad 70's haircuts...it sounds like a cliche, but for a collector who does it for fun, every card has some kind of story. Honestly, there's a lot of whining and moaning about cards on here, I'd like to do something to remind people that what we're doing is supposed to be fun.

There needs to be an Andy Rooney type column :)

Two topics: Problem cards and hobby-related profiles.

In the last two years I've written about both for the now-defunct Tuff Stuff and for Beckett. The profiles - and I've got one currently looking for a place to be published - can be on just about anyone with an interesting niche in the hobby or who is making some type of impact on it.

Problem cards is obviously something we all deal with to varying degrees. After my story ran in Tuff Stuff, I got at least a dozen emails from other people seeking help in dealing with manufacturers on damaged cards, redemption problems or just plain horrific customer service issues.

I think these could be interesting topic areas - and not just another slab of hobby opinions on a Web site. Let me know if you want more details on the completed profile.

I think it would be interesting to highlight some great sets that may have been forgotten. Here's the beginning of something I put together:

Over the last few decades the card companies have produced some remarkably innovative cards. We've seen guitar picks from musicians, paw-prints of dogs, paintings of presidents, and many others fabulously creative sets. Companies have produced cards with signatures from players who have long since passed away (in the form of cut autographs,) celebrities, world leaders, and just about anyone else who might sell. With all the creativity, it is hard to believe that there has only been a single autograph set entirely geared to a major part of baseball history, the ***** Leagues.

In 2001, Fleer produced a group of insert sets under the name "Stitches in Time." There were three sets, one with regular insert cards, one with game-used cards, and the one with autograph cards. The final of the three is the only autograph set comprised exclusively of ***** League stars.

I vote for Top. Anyone who reads his topics knows he's unbiased and always provides good insight to the boards. Just my 2 cents. :)

ie being on a budget, what types of cards you are looking for, getting a really nice high end pickup, picking up the lowe end stuff, missing out on a nice pickup, trading, not trying to hit the latest superflector auto 1/1 for profit etc

I will, as long as I can use a pseudonym. I don't write under my own name, ever

I dont care what name people write under

So it's open-ended? I can write about anything I want?

If so, I'm down. I'll submit a few articles in the next several days

I can do Rooney:

"Why is it everytime I open a pack of cards today, I get a bunch of guys named Rodriguez? What happened to Gehrig, and Ruth?"

Next in December will be another E and V --- and I'd love to hear from you all as to a favorite E and V to write about

I would right an article about how no one knows how to properly price their
cards when making deals here. i would be happy to do a 50 page rant about that.

Am I the only one who found this funny as hell on page 1?

How many writers are you hoping to add Chris? 3-5?

Or will it be open ended to the point that anyone would be considered at any time based on content of their work?

What about the constant chase for new things player collectors?
Maybe an ongoing article about how the increase in cost of the hobby has an effect on children's ability to collect? Either of these seem interesting?

You are not alone. Read the rest of the "applications." It's far from the only error.
