You ranked a Razor Westmoreland auto (who is not even playing right now) as hotter than Mark Sanchez, which also sells for about 10-20X higher and in the playoffs?

Yeah no Razor bias at all

::facepalm::

1. Westmoreland cards have gotten significantly hotter recently
2. He was ranked #1 Red Sox prospect, that seems to have boosted his status.
3. Sanchez cards have dropped a little bit as a whole as he himself hasn't played nearly as well as he did early on.
4. The $$ value the card is selling for doesn't particularly matter.

% bump is more important than the overall sale value of the card

The Westmoreland deserves to be there, and if he were an auto in bowman chrome he would be much higher on the list.

Too bad all 10 cards are FYs/RCs.

Why too bad? Honestly, the cards that fluctuate the most and have the biggest bumps are generally FY/RC cards...I'd expect to see them make up a majority of this list on a weekly basis.

Beckett would do well to offer lists of hot cards per week over the last month (not sure if someone here would want to offer to work with them on it or they would want in, but if we have the lists anyway, it is something they could benefit from.)

Anything with John Tavares' picture on it is selling really well right now.

With the recent release of Black Diamond Hockey and with SP Authentic and SPX around the corner, collectors are skating to get copies of "their guys". Tavares, Matt Duchene, and Victor Hedman have been selling well over the past couple of months. Other notables around the hockey world are of course Alexander Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Anze Kopitar(who lit it up at the start of the season). If you need any advice on the hockey stuff, always feel free to ask me. We don't need to leave it out of the loop! ;)

Beckett had more resources from which to draw, and so could more easily spot price fluctuations in all types of cards, not just FYs/RCs, and not just of cards that are a year or two old. Do the resources exist to include searches on other types of cards, or is there just a lack of interest in them given the members who tend to populate this board? Given the compartively fewer number of resources FCB staff has compared to Beckett's it might be interesting to include a poll...or maybe comparisons to Beckett aren't important.

I don't remember Beckett's lists as having gold refractors, however I do remember it having base versions of that card on their list. There are only 50 gold refractors and this is a pretty small sample size especially when compared to the base print run.

Just looking at this from a well-rounded perspective.

Did you ever see Beckett's lists (the original Hot Sheet)?

Color me biased, but I think any hot sheet for this week should include at least 1 Dawson card. :D

His prices have jumped (temporarily I hope) anywhere from 100-1000% depending on the card.

For the Bowman Chrome auto cards, why do refractor variations? Were those considered the best movers or best deals? I just think if you are going to use Bowman chrome autos, just use the base. Very cool list though, look forward to reading it weekly.

Pretty cool idea. Are you guys going to "Hot Link" it so we can check in every week or just start a new thread each week? This way I can keep track of it each week so I can check it out.

Awesome idea! Always one of my favorite parts of the Beckett magazine.

I'm curious, how is this "calculated". Seems to me that there wouldn't be sufficient market activity on a card #'d to 50 (Gold Refractor, for example) to be able to call it one of the Top 10 hottest cards in the hobby.

Those were the best/hottest movers. For example, in Mitchell's case, his chrome and refractor versions have actually dropped some since release. Golds have been staying hot @ $160.

So then the Top 10 is really one person's perception or just what they happen to pay attention to? I'm not complaining since it force me to maybe look at something I may otherwise not.

Well first, you can't really calculate percentage change for every single card on eBay...so yeah, its one person's knowledge (mine). However, that's why I said what I did about hockey etc. Suggestions are more than welcome as the more eyes we get and the more we have watching the better this list will be.

You could if you could get your hands on the daily sales data from eBay and create databases. :) I had a friend trying to develop something similar a few years ago. He gave up pretty much before he got started.

I was just asking questions and not trying to shortchange what you're doing here. I actually quite like it. My only suggestion would be to make Dale Murphy cards #1. ;)
