Let's start off a new month:

020123.jpg
The Zito is from a giveaway set at the 2003 Futures game...it doesn't seem to be catalogued by Beckett and I had never heard of nor seen one before. Thanks to @nevermore for the heads up!

Sammy Stewart gets my signed 1988 Topps set needs down to 19. He's not a super tough auto so I was confused about why it was so hard to locate a signed 1988 card...until I looked at his Wikipedia page and saw that shortly after his career ended in 1987 his life was a downward spiral of crack addiction and prison time before passing away in 2018. It seems like he may have gotten his life back together in the last few years, but being on crack for so long isn't going to lead to a long life even after you kick the habit. This one is Beckett Authentication Services certified with a sticker on the back. I have another one incoming for this set that isn't a sad story, just a reluctant signer.

I'll start with baseball, as this IS the baseball thread, but...

Tim Salmon. s-l1600-2.jpg

Byron Scott. s-l1600.jpg

I got this pretty cheap, but pretty sure I have this same packet already. I think they sent out a lot of them. Not hard to find unopened. s-l1600-5.jpgs-l1600-6.jpgThis was not my pic, not sure why the seller thought an upside down photo was a good thing?

And the one that I am most happy about, Marshawn Lynch, but as a Raider! He is 1 of 31 NFL RBs with 10,000+ career rushing yards. Approximately half are HOFers, but there is a STEEP drop off at 12K. Of the 16 with 12K+, 14 are HOFers and the other 2 aren't eligible yet. Of the 15 with 10K-11.9K, only 2 are HOFers, John Riggins and OJ Simpson. LeSean McCoy and Lynch are the only 2 not yet eligible.

Jazz is the only current Marlin I collect. The ‘22 image is one of my favorite pics in recent years. I’d work on a rainbow but half of them have an ugly Future Stars banner across the bottom

And the beginning of my bookcase. Got my favorite 90’s inserts in first

Tommy Kramer. His certified was a bit tougher to find than I would have expected. After Tarkenton retired, Kramer was up and I wanted him to be just as good as Fran. s-l1600-6.jpg

Brad Johnson 8x10 Auto (got the unsigned Fault too). s-l1600-2.jpgs-l1600-3.jpg

I don't need any more Krause, but I keep finding designs I just like. Doesn't help that I like purple. s-l1600-1.jpg

Plunkett. s-l1600-1.jpg

This was always a favorite set of mine when inserts were still a very special thing. I believe I recall these were 1 per rack pack. 30 card set, so not easy to complete at the time. s-l1600-5.jpg

I sucked it up and finally got one. I've been trying for several months, but wanted to spend as little as possible. Leaf afforded me this chance and this one is /10. Randy Moss. I do like the Vikes, but would really love to have this be in a Raider uniform. I now have autographs from all Raider players and staff in the HOF except Al Davis.

Carl Eller. From his Topps cards I had as a kid, he just looked like a tough, mean SOB. I recall, my brother and I would always pretend we were Eller when playing football and making a hit or stop on defense. After the hit or tackle, we'd say, you got Eller'd and that was the ultimate shutdown.

Two super sweet '90s cards today:

020523.jpg
1997 Flair Showcase Row 2 Legacy Collection Mark McGwire 086/100. This actually completes the 5-card Row 2 Legacy team set as I already had the Canseco and the three lower-priced cards (Giambi, Scott Brosius, and Geronimo Berroa). The Ben Grieve is a 1998 Leaf Fractal Materials Die-Cut. It's numbered 038/250 but only the first 50 were die cut. Got a solid deal on it because the seller just thought it was a /250 card.

That 1998 set was wildly confusing. I remember when we got it in at the card shop I worked at... nobody knew what they had, haha.

1 Cardinals auto in the mail today along with an order that came back from SGC
2022 Topps Heritage Real One Auto Red Ink Tim McCarver

1973 (SGC and PSA misdate these) Polydor Limited Guitar Album - These are the worst of the three copies I have and I wanted to see how they grade them. All the Hendrix cards are cut like this one on the front unfortunately. A 7 is basically a 9 for the Hendrix so I'm not unhappy with a 5.
The centering of the backs dropped the grades on both these.

Adam Frazier, barely keeping a theme going I have been chasing since 2017. The annual /25 Archives cards. Just got tired of paying a "premium" for nobodies. Frazier was around $6, so it was a decent buy. He's had 1 decent year and is a 1X AS, so he fits into that category for my collection as well, although I gave up chasing that subset a while back too. 25.jpg

JoJo White Old SDchool. I feel like I just may have bought oe of these, so this could be a dupe. Beeen on a tear lately, need to slow down. s-l1600-1.jpg

Randy Myers for my signed 1988 Topps set. Sadly a scribble on the top left of the card but I'll take it, Myers is a tough signer so it's real hard to track down any particular autographed card. 18 left now!

020623-2.jpg
Two cards near the top of my wantlists. 1999 UD Textbook Excellence Triple Eric Chavez 027/100. Chavez was in three of the UD insert sets for that year where they did an unnumbered version, a /2000, a /100, and a /10. I have all three /100 cards now, but none of the /10's. 2014 Topps Super Veteran Relics Barry Zito 24/25 - this was one I knew I had to have when the set came out. Right away one popped up and I passed on it figuring the prices would drop...and never saw another until this one showed up last week. Glad to finally have it!

020623-3.jpg
1939 Play Ball Blimp Hayes gets my needs for that set down to 2 cards. 1998 Pacific Platinum Blue Jose Canseco completes the team set! 1997 Finest Embossed Gold Mark McGwire is another '90s insert to fill in my McGwire needs, really narrowing them down now. And 2001 Pacific Retail LTD Adam Piatt 25/85 gets my needs for that set down to 5.

020623-4.jpg
Closing it out with some autographs. Mulder is out of the freshly released 2022 Finest. Zito is 35/75.

1999 UD Victory Paul O'Neill & Alfonso Soriano Rookie Misprint Error Card -- Have been on the hunt for a singular Soriano rookie, this misprint is one which only an O'Neill collector would appreciate.

Screenshot_20230206-184955~2.pngScreenshot_20230206-185005~2.png

I've thought about getting a single rookie from each year spanning from 1990, the year I started collecting cards. It would be a mix from all major sports. Would have to think about the 80s and post-2005 as well. Many I have, others are very easy, a few may take some time.

1990 Bernie Williams -- which one?
1991 John Starks -- Skybox
1992 Mariano Rivera - Bowman? (not a fan of non-uniform)
1993 Derek Jeter --1993 Ultra Auto (2001 Legacy Collection)
1994 Jorge Posada -- Bowman's Best Refractor
1995 Hideo Nomo -Zenith (only RC in Japanese)

1996 Amani Toomer -- which one?
1997 Hideki Irabu -- Bowman (IP/TTM auto)
1998 Orlando Hernandez -- Leaf R&S Longevity Holo 1/1
1999 Alfonso Soriano -- O'Neill misprint

2000 Plaxico Buress?
2001 Ichiro -- Bowman Chrome Japanese
2002 ?
2003 Hideki Matsui. -Ultimate Collection /25
2004 Eli Manning SPA /25

2005 Henrik Lundqvist -- Cup
