Only in Japan.

Famed heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will meet lightweight stand-out Shinya Aoki during a five-minute "special exhibition" at an April 29 M-1 Challenge (presented by Affliction) event in Tokyo, the organization today announced.

Rules for the contest are still being negotiated.

And considering nearly 70 pounds and four weight classes separate the fighters, expect some safety precautions to be put in place. The bout could end up being more of a grappling session by the time the official rules are announced.

The Emelianenko vs. Aoki bout will join a 19-fight card that includes head-to-head M-1 Challenge matchups between host country Japan vs. England, Team USA West vs. South Korea, and Spain vs. France.

Emelianenko and Aoki, who both hold WAMMA world titles in their respective weight classes, are two of the most popular fighters in Japan, so the exhibition is likely to be a hit with fans.

Emelianenko (30-1), a World Combat Sambo champion who will compete in the Abu Dhabi Combat Club's submission fighting championships later this year, last competed in January when he defeated former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski at Affliction's "Day of Reckoning" show. The 32-year-old former PRIDE champ is undefeated in his past 27 fights.

Aoki (20-4), a standout grappler who's ended 12 of his 20 career wins via submission, last competed in April, when he suffered a 27-second TKO loss to welterweight Hayato Sakurai at DREAM.8. Aoki is 15-2 (with one no-contest) in his past 18 fights.

I don't think "fight" is an accurate term for this. Fedor and Aoki are two of the biggest draws in Japan. They are just going to be demonstrating their talents for the crowd. Not a serious fight, Aoki would get murdered.
I think this type of thing is great for the sport. The fans get to see two of the best show off some slick skills. Kind of like a lesson for a large crowd.

Really? How can people call him the pound for pound best in the world when he fights garbage fights like this. This is a joke and anything he does outside of the US these days is a joke. AS long as he keeps taking on these jokes he can't be considered the best pound for pound fighter.

Well said!

I mean all he's done is beat every guy that's ever been put in front of him including his past two fights over former UFC Heavyweight Champions in around 2 minutes combined. How dare he do something else since he's bored beating the living crap out of everybody in his weight class. He's obviously dodging the well established true great fighters like Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir. He's probably afraid of those two.

Umm... Its not a fight...

Its a grappling demonstration for the fans. Fedor outweighs Aoki by 100 pounds. Of course this isn't meant to be taken seriously.

Here is my issue with Fedor. With the EXCEPTION of this past year he fights about 2 times a year since 2004. One of those is his annual sacrificial lamb New Years Eve fight in Japan where the only legit fighter he has fought on New Years Eve was Big Nog back in 04. Yes he is by far and away above anything the Heavyweight division in any organization has to offer Yes he will beat Brock and Mir right now. Honestly though if you would take his wiener out of your mouth you would see that he was loosing that fight to Arlovski and basically landed a right haymaker exactly as Arlovski went for a flying knee.

I usually would just let it go,but i have to say something.A.A. NEVER had him hurt in that fight, yeah he was winning to that point. That was part of Fedor game plan to bring him to the ropes,he knew A.A. wouldn't stick to his game plan.

I would love to see him fight better fighters, but it is what it is.He has never backed down from a fight and there is nobody that has a chance against him.He would sub Brock & Mir so fast that it wouldn't be funny.

He HAS NEVER LOST A ROUND IN HIS CAREER!

I agree with you that he would beat Brock and Mir. He wouldn't even have to sub him he could probably stand and fight with both. He has lost rounds in his career. I wouldn't go that far. His decision win over Big Nog was unanimous but it wasn't 30-27 on all cards.
