FIeld Level Preview: 2010-11 Panini Prestige Basketball

At the end of September Panini will bring the first product of their second year of NBA cards, Panini Prestige. As with many brands which carry over multiple sports, much of the card design will be the same as 2010 Prestige Football that was released a few months ago although there are some wrinkles to make this product more focused on basketball. Prestige is the closest that Panini gets to a base card product and if football is any measuring stick, will hold its value until the season starts and further products are announced and released.

Release Date: September 29, 2010
Price Point: $4/pack or $75 per box at Blowout Cards.
Product Loadout: 8 cards per pack, 24 packs per box, 12 boxes per case.
Hit Ratios: Each box will contain one autograph and one NBA Auto Draft Class #'d to 499 and two memorabilia cards per box.  Each pack will contain one rookie.

I'm thinking about this line as my replacement for Topps since they are out of the game.

I was saddened to learn there there will not be a "Panini" base issue in 10/11 like there was in 09/10. Next season "Donruss" basketball will replace "Panini" and they'll see how it does and decide then going forward which will be their "base" brand.
