I've never graded a card, but decided that for piece of mind I'm going to go ahead and grade these two in this month's BGS sub.
The Ryan has a major crease running the length of the card and the Jordan has a light surface crease from the top to the middle of the basketball net.
Jordan has great eye appeal, in my opinion.
Probably will hang on to the Ryan but haven't decided on the Jordan.
Although the grades will be low, I'm looking forward to seeing what they come out at...

In particular for the MJ, getting it graded is worth it just for the authentication even if you think it'll get a low grade. Good luck!

Grades are in! I don't have the cards in hand yet, but I'm pleased with the grades.

Jordan: BGS 5 (I was expecting at best a 4)
Ryan: BGS 2 (I was sure it would be a 1)

Congrats! I don't know much about grading or how that works but I have to assume a Jordan 5 is pretty solid, at the least you know it's authentic.

Always cool when your expectations are exceeded when it comes to grading. I'll keep you posted when they come in. Thanks again for participating in the group sub.

Don't know much about NBA cards, but isn't the Jordan a 5th year card?Wasn't his first Bulls card a Star team set card?

The 86-87 Fleer is his only true rookie card. The Star cards aren't considered rookies as they weren't issued in packs, but team sets.

The general cencensus is that the 86 fleer is mj's rookie card, not the 85 star which was never available via packs.

My question is how a card with a crease pulls a 5?

I think he said the Jordan only had a small crease.

I thought Star made a Jordan card his rookie year, guess I am off on that.Weren't the Star sets only distributed in select cities with a NBA team? What stores sold them? Are they oversized cards?
