I have wanted this card since it first came out. I should have bought this a few years ago before the Jordan insert craze, but I'm happy to finally own one. Sorry for the crappy scan:

Thanks for the look,

Awesome pick up. I remember my excitement when I pulled the Shaq from this set. I wish the current sets had inserts such as these.

Man, those inserts take me back! Damn I'd love to relive those years! I remember the craze with the borderless refractors and such from Finest. What a fun time to be in cards!

I agree, this was an awesome time to be involved with cards! There were shows all the time, card shops everywhere, and vintage was the only "real high end." I remember buying packs of Ultra and other brands, and then hearing that another kid at school (Junior High years) bought a box of Ultra and hit a Jordan Power in the Key insert. They were not called "hits" back then, but I was jealous.

Now people buy multiple cases looking to rip and flip, the hobby has changed and I am still a part of it. I wish Jordan's wouldn't have shot up so much in price (so I could buy more), but I understand it. It's gone from buying singles, to multiple packs, to boxes, to cases, and multiple cases because we are as addicted to the Hobby as much now as we were when we were 13 years old. Many of the young kids who are now adults who have been collecting for 20-30+ years, or longer, understand all of this and many don't.

I still embrace the hobby for the fun of pulling a crazy card, or the thrill of finally owning a card I've wanted for nearly twenty years. Many people are only in this for the money, but they usually leave. I remember the 1980's, 1990's, and the 2000's and I see the hobby for what it is. Did I lose money on 100 count lots of Ricky Jordan or Jeffries RC's that were advertised in the back of magazine's? No, because I couldn't afford them at the time. Now that I can afford 100 count lots of Bryce Harper I know the history, but it's still fun. In the end, this is about one card I wanted when I was a kid, but so much more than that because many collector's newer to the game can't comprehend the significance because they didn't live it.

This hobby is crazy, but I love it still. This post is not about basketball cards solely, but more in general. Whether you collect for money or memories, it doesn't really matter. But if you missed out on the early 1990's, you missed out on a ton. The same could be said for today decades from now. It was fun to collect back then, and it's fun to collect now. If you read all of this post, thank you, and you probably know what my ramblings are in reference to.

Thanks,

Jim
