Dan Gladden is coming on the Caravan at the end of the month and I wanted him to sign something cool for me. I picked up one of these (photo is a stock photo):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190582959735?ss ... 1497.l2649

As stated in the auction, the item is supposed to be VG - Mint. I got the SI in today and it had water damage on the front and back covers as well as a few of the pages on the inside (wrinkling and stains), also with some goo or dirt on the back. I don't consider that to be "very good," granted I am not an expert on SI's.

I didn't want to drop a neg right away, but I have never gotten a damaged item before and I don't know what to do. Should I message him and tell him the problem?

I don't mean to make this into a big deal, I just want to handle it as best I can and I don't know how to do that.

Please don't drop a neg on a $2 item. Use the DSRs.

If you are ever unsatisfied, the first step is always to politely contact the seller to let him know the problem and to give him a chance to fix the situation.

If he is rude, unprofessional, or acts like he doesn't care, then it may be time to consider a neutral or negative feedback. Otherwise, let him try to fix it and/or leave positive feedback with appropriate DSRs (there is one specifically for item as described).

In my opinion, negative and neutral feedback should be saved for situations where someone who tried to rip you off, or situations where the seller was completely out of line with the way they communicated with you (profanity, total disrespect, etc.), or situations where you gave the seller a chance to fix it, but were still left feeling bitter about the transaction.

While something listed as "very good" is rarely "very good" in the true sense of the words, I've always thought things like water damaged should always be disclosed when it comes to grades of a paper-based product. That isn't covered in a standard grading scale in my opinion.

That's why I asked first because I wasn't sure how to handle the situation.

I will give him a nice message explaining the situation and go from there.

Thanks!

If you are polite and professional, people are usually more than willing to work with you to resolve any issues you may encounter, both as a buyer and seller.

He has 5 others available. Ask him if he can look closely at the others to pick out the better conditioned one. If all are not to the condition you want ask him for a refund and walk away without a Neg.

Let it go, it's a worthless $2 item, unless the damage is unbearable to you.

Well, really it's $5.50 plus return shipping. That is assuming the seller wants it back.

I would just message the seller explain that you are unhappy and ask if he has one in better condition. If he does, then send him the one you received back and get the new, better edition in return.

Yes but he would have to hassle with the return shipping and that would cost money. I would personally let it go and not deal with that seller again, just me. I know others would take it further out of principle.

I don't do much with the principle side of things, it's a money issue. To some people, spending $2 here and another $5-6 there isn't a big issue, but it is to me. I would rather ship it back for $2 than spend $5 buying one from someone else.

I am also getting it signed for my personal collection. I don't want a signed piece of wrinkled and stained crap when I should have had something nice.

If you go to Walmart, buy a pair of jeans and notice when you get home that there is a big tear in the ass of them, do you ask FCB what you should do, or would you bring them back to Walmart (the seller) for resolution?

So with that, just message the seller, that is what you should always do first (work with the seller), tell them the situation and see if they will resolve it. If they wont, file a claim as item not received as advertised. You will have to send the item back and you will get your $$$ back.

Sort of a Dick comment.

Contact the seller first, then you know what your options are.

Is why MC is easy top 5 poster on FCB. He isn't afraid to call someone out and then slap them on back or send something on his own to you as a gift. Reminds me, I haven't went to my duckies and bunnies card lately. I know MC always loves when I do that.

+1

This is exactly what I thought when I looked at the link...except, if he tries to stand by his "no refund" policy. Then I probably would give a Neg for not disclosing damage on the item. But, that is really the last resort. He is a high volume seller and will probably just want to make it right.

I am not going to keep updating this, but I sent him a polite message telling him the problem and asking for a replacement or refund.
