Uhh

How can they call it Allen & Ginter when it doesn't look like the original A&G? I'm all for card companies ripping off designs from a hundred plus years ago since most of their own designs suck, but seriously....if you're going to steal a design from a long defunct cigarette manufacturer, at least do it right

I guess i'm the only one that lets out a big yawn when I see the same set trotted out for what, the 4th year in a row?

---------------------------------------

The base set will consist of 350 cards — 230 baseball players, 30 rookies, 25 historic figures and 15 world champions. It also will include 50 short-printed cards. Among the unusual inclusions to the basic set are Old Faithful – yep, the famous Yellowstone geyser — Brigham Young, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, Vincent Van Gogh, Gen. George Custer, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and The Milky Way. (That’s right, the galaxy.)

There will be a new Ginter code to decipher — along with a card featuring the collector who broke last year’s hidden code (presumably among the world champions set), while this year’s version includes a Creatures of Legend set that includes Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster and other mythic creatures. (Not sure how collectors will react to that.)

Also new will be a “world’s biggest hoaxes, hoodwinks and bamboozles” set — Charles Ponzi, The Runaway Bride, Enron, Cold Fusion, Bernie Madoff and The War of the Worlds among others.

The lineup also includes the requisite mini cards, printing plates, Rip Cards (with Dick Perez paintings possibly found inside) and the always popular framed mini autographs and Relic cards — some again including DNA.

Among the box loaders will be a Michael Phelps autographed card.

The National Pride set will include 75 cards showcasing players’ home countries, while the 40-card National Heroes set will do the same but with non-baseball personalities such as George Washington, William Wallace and Winston Churchill among others.

Autographs

Among the autographs, collectors will find a smattering of big-name baseball stars like Evan Longoria, David Ortiz and Ryan Howard but also Phelps, Texas and USA Softball star Cat Osterman, former Atlanta Hawk Dominique Wilkins, Billy The Marlin (yes, apparently the mascot), Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno and many others.

Greatness as usual. They should really expand on the guitar pick autos. I thought that was the best non-baseball auto idea ever. Get a classic rock section-Dylan, Springsteen, Clapton, etc. Plus have a 1/1 "gu" auto pick from Hendrix, Marley, etc. I would buy that...and I never buy anything outside of baseball.

Heh.....as far as the GU'd Hendrix/Marley stuff goes, it's not like this stuff is just pouring out of a faucet somewhere.....who says this stuff is actually available...

each BOX contains three hits? They keep upping the hits, which I think they should, since, as nice as that product looks, I always thought was over-priced.

Increased hits means increased jersey cards of players that no one wants.

Last year, I know many people, including myself got 4-5 hits a box.

I got a Hudson GU, Konerko GU, Wright GU, another GU, and a David Wright Autograph.

I'm sure there are 50-year-old hippies with plenty of that stuff ;)

Will topps change the checklist again like they did with heritage and Mayo football? Will most of the better
autos be the red kind numbered to just 10? That is what the promo pictures show. I think the potential for
topps to kill this product is high. They know everyone will buy it, why would they load it up with
star power? Look for Billy the Marlin to sign like 10000 autographs!

Buyer beware

sketch cards 1:6 packs :? talk about overkill.

Are you kidding? Remember 2 years ago they were used as a pack filler in packs without a hit. They were all marked 1/1 too, what confusion that caused!
