I'm pretty excited to watch a rematch of both of these guys' first career starts in a few minutes here...Porcello vs. Romero. Here's a little writeup on both of them if anyone cares: LINK

4-1 Tigers going into the 5th.

Porcello has to be one of the top guys in the league in giving up what I will call "bad luck earned runs". Here are the two most recent examples, one from each of his last two starts including today:

--The one run he gave up so far today came off a groundball that he knocked down with his glove and then was half a second late with his throw to first, then with one out, he struck out the batter while the runner tried to steal second and the catcher (Laird) had about 9 years to throw out the runner, but instead air-mailed it into center field (a half-decent throw would have had him out by three full steps). Then the next batter digs a pitch out of the dirt down the line for an RBI double. Good hitting by the last guy, but other than that, that run was basically just bad luck.

--The other day, Porcello gave up a run after a linedrive was hit at the left fielder, who took three steps in before realizing that he had horribly misjudged the ball and it went over his head and rolled all the way to the wall. He eventually scored and despite the fact that it should have been an easy out and was clearly misplayed, it goes down as an earned run because the left fielder never touched the ball.

The good news is that he's pitching extremely well and has the lead.

Well, there's another one...

--Runner on first, goes to second on a wild pitch/passed ball (not sure what the official scoring was on it), then on a 2-2 pitch, Marco Scuturo watches a perfect, knee-high fastball right over the outer half of the plate and the umpire calls it a ball (the third VERY close third strike that he has called a ball today) and then scuturo swings the bat for the first time and hits a bloop single. The next batter hits a groundball to third, Inge throws to second to get the out and then Polanco throws the ball over Miggy's head at first. No double play, run scores. Again, another earned run that seems to be the result of some bad luck, as they could have been out of the inning..

Porcello done with another strong outing: 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K, 103 pitches

And he's in line for win #13 once again. Hopefully the bullpen can hold it down for him this time.

Tigers win and so does Porcello. He now has 13 wins at age 20. Pretty impressive.

Alcides Escobar with a 2-run single starts a small rally for the Brewers in AZ. Now up 5-2. Kevbo must be enjoying himself in his good seats.
