I heard there was one for sale last year for $10K as well. I guess it's the same guy. If anyone sees another one please let me know. Also, will someone please PM me the contact information of the person who has the PSA 6?

Thank you

Yes I saw one PSA 6 in my opinion it could have graded lower than that the corners were not nice. He was asking $10,000 for it.

$10k? Wow... is this his most sought after card? That's a freaking lot of money and only for a PSA 6? Lol

Condition completely does not matter for this card. There are probably only around 25 in existense and they were not meant for hobby distribution. The gent who owns this card is a well funded Baltimore area collector. I've tried to get that card from him for years. Heck, if you gave him the 10,000 for the card he probably still wouldn't sell it to you!

This card reminds me of one that Mr. Mint would find and buy from some 50-90 year old ladies deceased grandsons/husbands collection.

It also screams that quote I saw on here. I was a millionaire until my Mom throughout my baseball cards.

Sorry didn't bother to get his name when he quoted me $10,000 I figured he wasn't to interested in selling it.

No worries. Someone has already PMed me and said the seller really doesn't want to sell, just as you figured.

Based on the price I guess this was the same 1980 Police Ripken that appeared at the previous National in Baltimore?

To call the card rare could be an understatement. Compare the population reports of the 1980 Charlotte Police Ripken and the T-206 Honus Wagner. Based on the past 6 years alone you have a better shot at finding a Wagner at public auction than the Ripken. Of course when you consider my background in documenting Cal's minor league memorabilia it is obvious that I am biased.

For those wondering there are 22 slabbed Wagners in comparison to 10 Ripkens in the PSA database. Not sure how the numbers compare in regards to BGS and SGC.

That's a cool stat... I want to know the grades of the Wagners

I know the person's name from Baltimore and it IS the same seller for both Natty's. However, I want to respect his privacy as this guy already has a world class collection without the Ripken and I'm friends with him. In thinking of the Orange Border population...I know of collectors from the following state who have one. Please fill in the blanks if you know of others: (1) Alabama, (1) Arkansas, (1) Arizona, (1) Maryland, (1) Pennsylvania and (1) Tennessee.

In 2006 someone walked in a shop in Mathews, North Carolina, with a stack of Police cards. The shop owner explained what they had and agreed to sell the cards on consignment. There were 5 Police Ripkens in the stack. Before listing the Ripkens, they were authenticated by PSA. When one card sold another was listed. The first copy cleared $2K. The second was over $1K. The third did not sniff $1K and the owner of the cards decided to keep the remaining 2 copies. The other player cards were broken into two lots. I do not have the exact prices or grades of the cards in front of me but I have the notes on the sales.

For the record I have no clue what happened to the two remaining copies in Mathews.

I know of one other ungraded copy in MD in a private collection that will never be for sale.

Saw the following auction and it reminded me of this thread:

http://www.goodwinandco.com/LotDeta...Sweet-Caporal-T206-Honus-Wagner-SGC-Authentic

One quote from the listing stood out to me:

The exact number of known T206 Honus Wagner’s remains a somewhat vague issue. Some say it is approximately 60 – 70, while others insist it is a figure closer to 100. The combined SGC and PSA “pop” charts indicate a 44 total, but we surely know with 100% certainty that a number of ungraded T206 Wagner’s exist in private collections.

Currently SGC has slabbed 2 orange Police Ripkens. Beckett has slabbed 3 Charlote Police Ripkens. For those interested that brings the grand total of slabbed 1980 Charlotte Police Ripkens to 15.

Liberate Baltimore, you wrote earlier about trying to determine the total population. Of the ones you know of, how many are raw copies?
