I know that Longoria has been on a tear as of late and his RC autos have exploded, but I just saw what Jay Bruce is doing. Now has 14 bombs on the year and the Reds are actually playing great ball. I wonder when will ESPN take notice and give him some love. that's usually what it requires for a player cards to bust out. I know that TBP is loving it.

He entered the day hitting .228 with a .305 OBP. Homers are nice, but they aren't everything.

He had like 7-8 cards on eBay last year with price tags of $1,000 or more.

He's going to need to do a lot more than hit home runs for collectors to buy into the hype again.

I prefer Joey Votto. ;)

But let's face it, chicks and prospectors LOVE the long ball.

If that was true on its own, Russell Branyan would have been getting laid every night for the past 10 years.

I don't love 8 for 58 and at the plate in a two week span and 8 games between HRs....he is a poor man's Adam Dunn, I have never been impressed with him. Now he won't get a hit the rest of the week.

Branyan and Bruce should not even be mentioned in the same breath. Bruce is a much better hitter then he is showing average wise and his defense is stellar. His HR's and defensive gems will get him on ESPN. there are lots of high average, no power guys that get no love. I think Bruce average will be around .290 by end of year and if he keeps hitting bombs and the Reds keep winning, his average will not matter.

I wasn't comparing Bruce to Branyan. I'm saying homers aren't everything. If Bruce hits .290 this season by the way, I would be stunned. .265 would be fine for him. The talent is obvious, but when you want to take the focus on Longoria and put it on Bruce, you have to realize they're not on the same level.

Baseball stats are like a girl in a bikini, they show you a lot but they don't show you everything.

I don't see a big difference in the talent between the two. Longoria has done it on the big stage of the playoffs, but Tampa is a mess right now and by the end of the year they will be watching the playoffs and the rays will once again be the third best team in the division. Bruce definitely has the time to live up to expectations, which were on par with Longoria when he came into the league. He too is still young and should the Reds ever put a more solid team around him, Bruce will be a much bigger item. Reds following vs Tampa following is no comparison.

Umm Longo cooled down which is true, YET he is still BATTING .324 as of today with 49 RBI, Bruce may have 14 bombs, but he is batting .229. Another Adam Dunn Stat. This was a terrible thread you started. A guy batting .229 is not worth the praise you are dishing out. Votta batting .370+ deserves the praise you are trying to give Bruce.

This is my point exactly. I don't get what the markets have to do with Longoria just being better than Bruce. I don't care what happened last year in the playoffs. Longoria is a much more impressive player, period. Talent is important, but so are results.

+1

He goes into prolonged slumps in his career, I don't even give him .255.

Jay Bruce is going to special. He just turned 22 a month ago and is already showing serious power. He needs to improve his average and I think he will.

When I read the first part of this sentence I was thinking BJ...then I read the name "Peavy" and was like "BJ didn't hit off Peavy today....OOOOOOHHHHH....."

You see the resemblance I'm sure...
