I found some newspapers from my local area newspaper that my stepdad's boss has..he only wants $10 a piece for them, are they a good deal? They are from the '30s, and feature stories and pictures of guys like Ruth, Cobb, and Matthewson. Are they even worth that much? They're from the Evansville Courier and Press, so I had no clue. I think I'm going to buy one that features a Babe Ruth picture (If I remember right, he's getting his hand taped up by a team doctor), frame it, and hang it on my wall with another Yankees display I made (which looks GREAT by the way, pics soon). Anyway, I'm just wondering if they're even worth the paper they're printed on. They're single pages, torn/cut out. Yellowed slightly from aging. Any help is appreciated.

Probably not, I have a bunch of these from the mid-20's...while fun to read, I couldn't imagine actually paying for them.

All are from the Hartford courant.

Newspapers are a pain in the ass to get a gauge of value on. It has a lot to do with whether or not the paper is well known, condition and yellowing, etc. I have a Lincoln Assassinated paper that's worth about $600 from a small town(don't remember the town or paper right now). From a major paper like the Boston Globe, it's worth twice that or more.

I'd say buy any of them that feature major stars in game action (ie, no pics of Babe with a kid). Get a cheap frame with UV plexiglass and you've got a kickass display piece from a HOFer's playing career 1/100th the price of a baseball card would run

Sounds like what I am thinking about doing. Thanks. :)

Sometimes there is some great content in there. I have a bunch of late 20's papers of the Baltimore Orioles showing Lefty Grove with the last name of "Groves" as was common back then for him.

Definitely worth the pick up if the price is right.

Not to mention the hilarious writing style of the era. I have a paper from London at the turn of the 20th century. Everything was printed in gold leaf to mark the occasion. I've honestly laughed out loud at some of the turns of phrases. Plus, they listed some predictions for the year 2000 in regards to populations in England. London was predicted to have approximately 20 million people which would have put it third in the UK behind Manchester (25MM) and a town that currently has less than 10k which they pegged to have 30MM by now.
