Just finished a custom card I've been wanting to do for a long time. The back story is on my blog, linked below.

Bob. Really enjoyed your blog and LOVED the Frank Thomas card you did. Keep up the great work. The hobby needs more dedicated people like you.

Ok, I'm going through catologging my Frank collection and came across this....
What set is this from? Was it a buyback...or just a fake? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Steve

probably a stupid question, but I need help with this card.

19?? Topps Frank Thomas PP6

It's seems like a Pre-production card, but it has his 1994 stats on the back and a copyright of 1996. So is it a 1995 topps pre-production? Also the photo on the front is the exact photo used on his 1995 Stadium Club #400. any info would help.

CJ. It is indeed a 1996 the Topps PP6 (pre production) card.

Hey Steve. The card in question is indeed a buy back but I can't remember how the buy back worked or in what year it happened. I'm having a "senior moment". :) Maybe one of our fellow FT collectors has the answer. Anyone?

Thanks for the info. Any particular reason why it isn't on Beckett's checklist or am I just missing something?

I second that. It was Scoreboard that sold these cards autographed. I have no idea how they were sold or packaged though. The hardest one for me to complete of these after-market Scoreboard autos are the 10 card 1993 Leaf Thomas set. I am up to 7 of the 10.

So, I hope that you guys can help me understand what may be missing from the 1992 Front Row set below. I have all 7 cards with the "Exclusive Offer" on the back, but I also have 2 cards with both "Promo" and "Exclusive Offer", and one card with just "Promo" on the back. Do you guys know if all 7 cards were produced with both "Promo" and "Exclusive Offer" on the back? Also, do you know if all 7 cards were produced with only "promo" on the back?

Quite possibly one of the worst fake Thomas auto's ever

No wonder he pulled the auction? He didn't even try to get it right.

I sent him a message about his fake auto, & he was apologetic & embarrassed & pulled the listing. Said he doesn't know who's sig it is, but obviously not Frank's. Seemed sincere about it & I kinda believe him.

Thanks for all the help and direction. Knowing where it came from kind of worries me that it's not real though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I can remember correctly weren't Ken Goldin and scoreboard notorious for selling fakes?

Randy,
Being an original member of the Front Row Collector's Club in the early 1990's, I bought all the Frank Thomas stuff they put out. Tim Flatt's eventually sold his company and his remaining inventory, and many variations on the original sets were distributed by guys like Ken Goldin.
The Exclusive Offer cards you have were originally sold as a set, available only to the Collector's Club members. There should be a Certificate of Authenticity that came with that set indicating it was one of 10,000. The retail set (without "Exclusive Offer" on the back) had a certificate indicating a print run of 30,000.
The promo card without the "Exclusive Offer" stamp was originally issued as just that - a promo card. There were a total of 3 of these type of promo cards issued. While these cards aren't numbered, they correspond to cards 1, 2 and 3 from the set. There were only 2 Exclusive Offer promo cards offered, the ones you have. I believe these were only produced to sell in a "promo set" of 5 cards. This set was produced late in the life of the Tim Flatt Front Row Card Company. I believe it probably was a way to sell some of his excess inventory. No Certificate of Authenticity was issued with this set.

Hope that helps.

Awesome summary! Many thanks! Any chance you have an extra of the other two "promo" cards you would be willing to sell?
