Here's my Frank jersey I had signed last Saturday at Triple Threat Sports. He was very friendly I thought

Do any of you guys need a 1997 Donruss Preferred SAMPLE tin? I have no use for it, PM if you do.

Thanks Jackson, I'm good to go on that one too. Let me know if you find the blue tin with gold foiling though!

--------------

I wanted to share a card in the collection of a great autographed rookie collector named Mike Navarro.

The actual card was once part of my collection, but Mike was looking for a copy at a decent price to have sent out to be autographed. I had planned to do the same, but having just purchased the PSA 9 NNOF at the time, I needed to recoup some funds and pushed the idea off.

Anyway, here it is, from last Saturday's signing in Illinois.

What would have been great would be if he printed his name in the blank name section in addition to the standard auto!

Beautiful jersey, would love to see a full shot.

Glad to hear the experience was pleasant. The positive stories you hear of Big Frank will always outweigh any sour experiences some have claimed to have had.

Frank's willingness to spend time with fans and sign at games is part of what made his signature become the chicken scratch it has become. He's signed probably ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND autos or more...he's shortened it a lot as result.

I don't know if this tin is just the faded red or gold but it has a goldish gray tint where the other tins are red. The funny thing is though is that the MLB logos are bright red so I don't think it is faded. The scan doesn't show the color the greatest as it looks gray in the scan but it does have a gold tint to it.

If you get a chance to take a picture of it with a camera, please share the picture. I see what you mean about the MLB and MLBPA logos still having its color. Very interesting.

Leave it to Magic to 'gently encourage' (prodded?) board participation. <wink> ;-D

JD it's difficult to say looking at your provided images. I ran it through Photoshop to get a sense of what colors could be extracted - a far cry from definitive, but it often gives an idea of what's 'there'.

It seems, at least from a superficial examination, to be a red that's faded. But you would know best.

Here is a side-by-side comparison for you that I hope will assist:

And until it was located by Chris Kurdelski - I was a hairs breadth away from tagging it "does not exist". <g>

Lance ;-D

P.S. Its been so long since I logged on to FCB that I had to look up my password. <laugh> <sigh> <shrug> ;-)

Lance its hard to say because it looks like the gold too. When I look at it in hand it looks as if it was faded gold, almost like a platinum color (compared to the Piazza) but it could be faded red too. The thing I dont get is that both MLB logos are bright red. Would they use different inks to print the MLB logos and the rest of the tin? If they did then I'll have to say it could be faded red.

P.S. glad to see you on here again Lance

Well, got the 1998 Pinnacle Plus Team Pinnacle in today, but it's the version with Frank on the foil side...can't get a good scan to save my life.

The Thomas glossy side just sold on eBay the other day...maybe one of our members will be able to scan it soon.

Did you try scanning it in a penny sleeve or in a toploader? Did you find it on eBay?

Not eBay, but from Burbank on Beckett.

I did try...it helped a bit, but the stupid penny sleeve was acting like a static cling and sucked up every piece of dust it could find.

I'll get the image from my recycle bin and post it in a little while.

Edited to add:

When I'm not lazy, I'll try to get a piece of glass and raise it off of the scanner bed.
