When all was said and done I purchased 13 pairs of wristbands and 4 randoms from the same source for a total of 30 wristbands

Awesome! Do you think that Frank knows you own every one of his wrist bands he ever used ;)

Randy...kinda makes me sound stalker-ish ::facepalm:: ...but it is true :D (the every wristband thing, NOT the stalker thing)

Hey guys,

I found this thread/site while doing some research on a card so I thought I'd join. I've been a Thomas collector for about 15 years now and have almost 1800 different cards. While I thought I had a nice collection, I've seen some stuff on this thread that blows me away, definitely some incredible collections out there. It's nice to see that other people appreciate the Big Hurt!

Anyway, back to my original research, I've been presented with the opportunity to pick up his 87 auburn tigers issue and I have no idea what to value it at. The trader said he traded $50 for it about a decade ago and the only unoffical BV I can find comes from frankthomascollection.com of $150, is that an accurate number? Anyone know how rare this card is, I've never seen it in all my years of collecting, but I didn't know it existed so I never was on the lookout.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

CJ

Welcome to the thread CJ, nice to have more collectors to share with.

To answer your question, the most recent copy of the Auburn issue sold for $80 about a month ago. It was ungraded and NM+ to NM-MT. Two graded mint copies have sold in the $350 to $400 range, but no gem mint copies have ever traded hands.

Welcome to the thread! Hope that you will share some of your favorite Thomas items or recent pickups!

That is one of my favorite Thomas cards. If I saw one for $150 that looked to be in mint or better condition I would jump all over it. I have a BGS 8.5, which cost me $40 raw about 2 years ago. Probably would have been more, but it was not listed with Frank's name in the auction title. I think that there was just as big of a print run for the Auburn issue as the 1987 Pan Am Blue, but I have rarely seen it at auction during the past two years, where the Blue is relatively common. One of the fellow Thomas collectors on here found a copy for like $5 that graded PSA 10, I believe. There is a picture somewhere back in the thread.

Welcome to the site. Hope to see more from you in the future. I agree with randyherth, I love that card. I would jump on a copy of that card that sells for under $100. As infrequently as we see that card on auction sites, $150 would be a deal for a mint copy of that card.
By the way, you couldn't have picked a better place to find accurate information on Frank Thomas cards than frankthomascollection.com.

Yes, I got lucky for $5 I got the complete set in original packing, most of the cards in the set were gem mint, minus a couple with a bit of a right to left centering problem.

Here's my trio...hoping to pull a 10 on the regrade of the 9 one of these days.

Thanks for the info guys. I was able to pull the trigger on the trade so I'm quite thrilled at the moment. The trader didn't have a scanner so I didn't get to see it beforehand, but he said it has 4 sharp corners and decent centering so we'll see. I'll post a pic when I get it.

Help me out guys, I've been working on the website and needed to throw up a quick header. I'm going to make a better one in the future, but, if you will, give me some ideas on improving this one:

Hi Ross,
Great header for your upcoming FT website. May I suggest using the number 35 somewhere on it. How about on the ball? :)

George

P.S. Fantastic set of 3 PSA Auburn cards. Makes my raw copy look blah :(

Do you know what the population report is on this card for PSA?

I know the higher grades, I've submitted the most, and beyond that only 2 other people have submitted to PSA that I know. One guy resubbed the first PSA 9 and bumped it to a 10 recently.

Two 10s, Three 9s, Two 8s

Congrats to Beckett for absolutely butchering the truth. This is what happens when they quote guys who are profitting off of the work we did and weren't even a part of the original work.

What a shame. I still don't know why they talked to him and didn't go to you first.
