Okay...I went to get a Matt Schaub autograph today.Supposedly he was at a local FEDEX store here in town and he was helping people ship their package.Basically you could bring in a package and he would help you pack and ship items. Some kind of weird promo for Fed Ex.I was kind of cautious about going because I almost got hosed Sunday.Sunday they had Clyde Drexler(a basketball player for those who don't know) at a local Best Buy and I never could get to the bottom of the event before hand because I was getting different stories from both the staff and the lady running the event.Lets just say...it was a major pain in the ass and I was lucky to get anything signed at all because of the way the event was run.I'll post that in a basketball thread though.

So, about Schaub...he was at the local Fed Ex today and when I called yesterday they weren't telling me anything. They told me "We can't give you any information regarding it.".Gee...that was a lot of help.So I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get an auto. But I figured with the very limited amount of people who were going or even knew about the event...I'd better at least try.I was sure something good would come from it.

So after getting up late(stupid alarm clock) I mosied on in during the middle of it. He was doing a radio interview and I asked if he would be signing any autographs. The guy said he didn't know and I could ask.But in the meantime...I could fill out some ballots for a chance to win an auto'd item of his when they did a drawing. So I fill out a few of them, as instructed. So when he comes back out I ask the person who seems to be running things and she ignores me.So I just simply asked Matt to sign my mini helmet.I have wanted him on a mini helmet for quite some time now.He looked at the lady running the event and asked her and she turned and told me no.He wouldn't be signing any autographs. But she told me I could fill out a few of the ballots and if I won, I would get my pick of an autographed item.I told her I already did and she said I could fill out family members names too.So I just filled out one for my wife and stuck it in.

So at around 11:45 they started having Matt draw names out of the ballot box.About 5 or 6 people won items. But I was worreid because there seemed to be a slew of ballots in the box.But what do you know? They pulled my wife's name. The funny thing is...I had wanted a mini signed but I noticed they were giving away signed authentic NFL footballs(the kind that run about $90) to people. They basically asked what you wanted.So...I couldn't pass up the opportunity to snag this bad boy.Boy was I happy I made that trip.I came very close to not going, especially after the Drexler incident ,and none of my buddies wanted to go since we couldn't find any solid info on the event. But I am very glad I did.

Scans don't do it justice and the cell phone pic sucks but trust me...its a beauty!

That's cool it worked out for "your wife." I dealt with a similar situation with Jared Allen at a Mexican restaurant this fall, where his lady-handler wouldn't let him sign for anybody who hadn't ordered an appetizer. Unlike you, however, I left empty-handed.

Cool story. Congrats on the score! I wonder why they wouldn't let him sign things people brought in. It seems to me that Matt thought he was going to get in trouble if he signed something!

Read my Drexler story in the basketball thread I am getting ready to post. Its starting to seem like the people running the events are the ones who are trying to keep people from getting autos. Why?I have no idea.I could see them not wanting mass chaos but hardly anyone knew of this event.I was actually the only one there at the time and I was kinda perturbed since he was standing around doing nothing for a while.I think he wanted to sign. Most of the Texans and Astros are pretty cool about signing autos. But the promoters aren't cool with it.And I guess he has to do what they say.Hey...if I had walked away empty handed...oh well. Not the end of the world. Its just the gas money you spend that makes you hesitant to go.That's why I don't normally go to events unless an autograph is garanteed barring a no-show by the player or just simply arriving too late and being too far back in line.

Apparently you had to be one of the first however-many to order them, or be there by a certain time. Much like PredatorKJ's experience, restaurant employees were far from helpful when it came to sharing information about the signing.

I ordered a couple of drinks, but apparently those don't count as appetizers.

I told her that it was hers and she said "I don't want that damn thing...he sucks". Hey...at least she knows who he is.I have been trying to get her involved with sports and she really likes the longhorns but hates the Texans oddly enough. But she is a good luck charm.Last year they had a similar event where they choose ballots from a box and she won a bunch of crap for me.I need to make sure she is with me at these events more often.

If I had known you were going I'd given you some scoop to mention to him. He went to my HS and his sister runs my Bank. Maybe with some "inside" info, he'd have hooked you up b4 you won.

If you need any updates for another signing, just LMK. And congrats on the win!

Maybe Rev.'ll trade ya for it! :D

There are some nights when drinks are not only my appetizer, but the man course as well.

ive had a few run ins at events like this. i asked the handlers about it and they said the reason a person didnt sign is probably that they were being paid to do something and signing wasnt involved. they probably viewed the raffle as his ''signing'' thus not allowing him to sign your mini.
