Today I had the privilege to go to the oldest professional baseball stadium for the 2009 Rickwood Classic. Rickwood Field is a couple of years older than Fenway park and the owners try to keep the stadium in the past as much as possible. Each year, the White Sox AA MiLB affiliate, the Birmingham Barons, host a throw back game in this park, since it was their old stadium until the late 80's. Today, their opponents were the Mississippi Braves and I was excited about the game.

To view the whole album, you can click HERE, but here are some of my favorites

Awesome park. I love the lights!

Glad you mentioned them, Gorkys Hernandez fouled a ball back and shattered a light. Glass rained down slightly behind the Baron's dugout. Thankfully no one was hurt, so it made for a funny moment.

Wow I love the throw backs games.
those are where they move the same 155 fans around the park so you think it is close to a sell out. ::facepalm::

I heard about Beckham when I got home and for the wrong reasons, I'm quite happy. Mississippi should have a better shot at winning against the Barons in the series. The Barons' offense with Beckham was quite scary.

great pics. I like that the scoreboard has old MLB teams on it.

Yeah, that really stuck out to me too. Seeing two Boston teams on the scoreboard is a fun sight.

Rickwood is a cool thing that the Barons put on. I use to live in the "ham" and it was always something to look forward too. unfortunately the area is very GHETTO, and its not recommended to go into at night. Hence moving the Iron Bowl (if you are not Southern, then you have no clue!) moving to each school's stadium from Legion Field.

Fun place though

Yeah, you know how bad the area is. Just imagine how bad I laughed when local houses wanted $5 to park in their yard.

I keep clicking on this thread every time it comes up. I would love to shoot a game there.

I'd love to see you shoot one, my cheap digital doesn't come close to showing the experience. Got a funny feeling you'd come a lot closer.

It looks like the kind of place you need to leave the big lenses at home for and shoot a ton of wide angle stuff for to get the atmosphere.

I have an Aaron Rowand game-used bat from when he played in the Rickwood Classic, but until I read this post I had no idea what it was all about.
