Lesson learned on this thread:

When posting on a message board, wordage is VERY important.

When you use the terms "steal", "talked down" and "granny" in your thread, prepare to get flamed. People are protective of their grannies, even if they are chain smokers. This is similar to using the terms "world's greatest" and "hands down" without being able to back it up. You will get flamed. Yes, you will.

I don't think the terms "steal" and "talked down" are words that should get anyone flamed. Were all looking for that "steal" on either a PC piece or an item we can flip. Anyone who does garage sales or estate sales knows you always try to "talk down" the seller on the listed price. Its called smart business.

You forgot "granny" LOL

I think if a seller don't know what they have then they should learn what they have if not said seller does not know if they are getting screwed and they would be at fault. You can not blame someone who knows what they could be worth for talking them down to what they want to pay to make X amount of profit.

The point isn't whether or not someone deserves to get a steal, the point is if they offered him the cards for $35 and he talked them down to $30 even if he already thought he was ripping them off blind..........er, that's pretty funny and low down   That's what he's getting ripped for - that and the fact that he did it to a geriatric bacca addict

What if the seller knew the Jordans were reprints/counterfeits and threw that lot together just to sell errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrything quickly? The "granny" was looking for a "mark" and 1nvested came calling!

I can't help but imagine these folks with a box of Jordan reprints. Sell a couple, let someone think they got a deal, wait for them to leave then set out two more for the next buyer longing for the deal of century.

Scary that me and IndyMann were thinking the same thing at the same time.

Somewhere in the world Peyton Manning is wondering why he has a sudden urge to buy a Jordan rookie card.

I'll still get a couple of bucks for the reprints, the Starting Lineup's are on eBay, and I pissed off a good amount of people on FCB.....
hahaah you think you pissed people off? WOW

from the looks of the last 9 pages.....yup.

so your intent here was just to piss people off?

You know we ban people for trolling right?

You ban people for having an opinion? I said I THINK I pissed people off. That was never my intention by posting the thread....so if that's how you feel, then so be it.

No one knows the whole story and never will....it really doesn't matter. So go back to your everyday lives and thank me someday when you come across a Fleer Jordan RC at a garage sale. 3 things will come to mind when you spot that illustrious card.... You have no problem paying the big bucks for the high valued card, you are a reprint expert now so you will know if it's real, and you will reminisce back to this thread and have a good laugh...

It's been a good 10 pages, but I think it's time we lay this bad boy to rest.

Well I can say I'm a little ticked. Not at the OP though. Seriously, if you all continue to post steal threads from ebay, you are nothing but a bunch of hipocrites. Every one of you. Because 9 times out of 10 when you get a steal on ebay, its either worded incorrectly or the seller didn't know what they had. Exactly how are you any different? Not one single person has come forwards to answer that.

If you want to be technical and act like what you are really mad about is the haggling then so be it. But I don't buy that. It's back tracking. You haggle at garage sales. I don't think any of you were pissed off about that. Because if the OP was indeed "taking advantage" of the "little old granny" then what the hell is the big deal about him haggling her down a few bucks(or her son to be correct)? That is like seeing a guy get shot, and not being mad that the guy was shot , but rather the fact he was shot with a .38 instead of a Taurus Judge. Who the hell would be mad over that little bit of trivia? Wouldn't the fact the guy got shot be the main point of contention?

And like I mentioned earlier...some of us do collect. I'd never pay the prices that some cards command. In my mind, some are extremely overpriced. So if I find an unbelievable deal on a card I'd like to have, I'll take it. Because it being worth a zillion bucks means nothing to me. I'll never see that money. It was just a card I wanted and chances are if I have it, I found it for a price I could live with. I'm not anyone's momma and I'm not here to hold their hand. I am a card collector and I will find the deals where I can. All you guys who are pissed off need to start a neighborhood watch and go start monitoring garage sales and flea markets or something.

garage sale steal indeed!

next time she has a garage sale i am willing to bet, you will find a few more jordan rookies. why? because that is what scammers do

just go to any card show, jordan rookies are for sale at almost every table and they are almost ALWAYS counterfeit!

there are so many ways to tell if they are real or not, and yes, some counterfeits are getting better, i have held some pretty good fakes in my own hands, but from these scans alone i can see a few red flags and can say for certain they are worthless pieces of paper the lady probably paid $1 each for, so have hundreds of other scammers

there are so many stories as there are scams

my favorite was from a hobby shop, a friend i was staying with invited me to his LCS, they had just opened a 'factory sealed' box 86-87 fleer basketball, they sold the packs at a bargain price, odd for a hobby shop, my friend grabbed a pack, pulled a jordan rookie, the next day someone else pulled a jordan rookie, i learned later... i picked up a pack, and yes you guesses it, i had a jordan rookie in my pack, i pulled a counterfeit jordan rookie out of a sealed pack, factory sealed, NO, real jordan rookie, NO... do you need to buy a vowel?

the scammers are everywhere, even on this board, i get offered fake jordans here all the time, especially on other card forums

scammers are everywhere looking for suckers, to buy their bogus garbage, they will do and say anything to steal your money

that is why you need to take names, keep a list of scammers, their username and their real name as well as their address, we need to make it harder for these scammers to do 'business', we need to drive the scammers away from this hobby into another, report them to the mods here, and on other forums, etc... report anything fake on ebay, if enough people report them, ebay will close the scammers account, even the well know scammers who set up tables at the card shows, more and more shows are beginning to ban them as well, but only if you complain about them

tell topps, tell panini, we need them to DO MORE to stop all the scammers and counterfeiters before they ruin the hobby for the rest of us, we need to get the word out, WE WILL NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
