For those of you not in the D.C. region, we're expecting 1-2 FEET of snow this weekend.

This per Capitals Insider
D.C. snow and the Penguins-Caps game
With another massive snowstorm slated to pummel D.C. Friday, the Caps are monitoring the possible effects on their games against Atlanta on Friday night and Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon, a team spokesman said.

Consider these factors:

*The Penguins play at 2 p.m. Saturday in Montreal -- will they be able to fly into D.C.?

*The teams, league officials and arena workers have to be able to get to Verizon Center.

*Is the arena is a position to staff a game and open its doors?

*Could Sunday's game, slated to start at noon, be pushed back a few hours? It's possible NBC wouldn't be willing to put the game up against the Super Bowl, which is at 6:30 p.m.

Looks like this situation might get interesting. (but man regardless of timing, who would schedule such a game on superbowl sunday? durrrrrr)

I doubt NBC will move the game but I will not be watching the Super Bowl anyway so start it at 5 when I get home from work.

Update: Owner Ted Leonsis says everyone needs to calm down about the storm, AKA Snovechkin:

We will publish info on my blog and on our Washington Capitals website about the games but my bet is if the other teams are here, we will be playing both games.
This is hockey weather. If we can play, we will.
I also just heard from a Penguins spokesperson, who said the team has not made any changes to its travel schedule and is in wait-and-see mode.

Ya sounds like you guys are in for quite the storm!

This would be fun:

With the help of Twitter and Facebook, snowball fights were being organized around D.C., including on the National Mall and in the city's Dupont Circle neighbourhood.

Organizers were quick to emphasize the gun-free nature of the fights, however, following an incident after the December snowstorm that resulted in a D.C. police officer pulling a gun on a group having a snowball fight around the popular U Street corridor, the hip locale for many Washington restaurants and clubs.

By mid-afternoon on Friday, as many as 2,000 people had joined the Facebook page promoting the Dupont Circle event. One would-be combatant had a compelling question, however.

"So million-dollar question: How in the world are the non-Duponters making it there if the over-the-ground Metro isn't going to be working?" Sheethal Bhandari wanted to know.

Came the reply on the Facebook wall: "In a sleigh pulled by reindeer!"

Also:

Update, 5:30 p.m.: According to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the Penguins are scheduled to fly to Newark tonight and then take a four-hour bus ride to D.C.

hoping for a double hat trick from Crosby and Staal.

the Pens flew into Newark NJ last night and took a bus to DC and didn't arrive until 2:15 am. they stopped at a Burger King in Maryland for their pregame meal.

rumor has it NBC refused to delay the game by and hour.

I love how you see Crosby going for the throat and trying to score this season, rather than always looking to pass first.

Did anyone notice that huge smile Crosby had while Shaone Morrisonn was raping him infront of the crease?

I sure did.

How is there no penalty on that though? :?

EDIT: nevermind they let him off with that like they let off the boarding call on Ovie in the 1st. ::facepalm::
