Hi FCB,
I go to Spring Training each year in Arizona--I'm in the San Diego area. I collect in person autographed rookie cards, so this trip has been the biggest collection builder for me for the past 5 years or so (~100 to ~130 auto RCs each year). I don't have a ton of cards because I don't open much wax and I only keep rookie cards. So, I have around 6,000-7,000 cards ranging mostly from 2005-present. I do, of course, have most RCs of the bigger name guys I might run into in Arizona. I usually see about 5-6 teams over a 3-4 day trip. I'm a teacher, so I am unable to take off a bunch of time from work and spend the money to stay in AZ for weeks (plus, my district's Spring Break never coincides with with Spring Training). Aaaanyway, back to the point: each year I create notebooks full of RCs for each team I plan in visiting--organized alphabetically for easy access. I reference rosters on MLB.com and MiLB.com. I know I don't have a shot to get everyone, so I see whose cards I have and then make a shopping list for COMC and/or Sportlots to get cards of guys I want to add to my collection. I usually stick to starters and top prospects for this shopping list. To figure out who is in each organization, then who I have, then who I need, I end up making a spreadsheet like this one by going through all the rosters I can find and copying pasting:
http://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtzJ-yoVgCFrdC1MMENMc3d2Y2l4NVJDa3ZUQno0WVE
It's a hassle. I greatly enjoy my hobby, but is there a way to get rosters like this one easier? I am looking for a current list of each and every person in the team's organization. Is that too much to ask? My spreadsheet will be outdated as soon as the Padres make any move on any of their rosters because I made it today.
Thanks,
Anthony
tl;dr: Is there a place I can get a roster of everyone in a team's organization like the one linked above?
