What will make or brake this trade for the Nationals really depends on what else they do. If they sign Fielder and Oswalt this will be a good deal. Dont do anything else this is a bad deal.

Its a bad deal

How can you even do a top 10 prospects. Maybe BA will do a special exclusive top 20 addition for the A's

Funny thing is, people say something like this every few years about the A's and they still are unable to replicate what teams like the Ray's do with limited budget and heaps of talent.

Exactly, every couple years "check out the awesome trade oakland made with their only decent players, they should be amazing in 2-3 years".

2-3 years arrives, "check out the awesome trade oakland made with their only decent players, they should be amazing in 2-3 years".

It's getting really old, really fast.

At least tickets are easy to get :)

It will be fun watching Brad Peacock strut his stuff with the A's. He should really be able to spread his wings and fly in that big ball park in Oakland.

What does this do for my Cole stash?

Don't sweat it. Probably nothing. Many people have made money on both Nationals and Athletics prospects.

Personally I made money on Chris Carter and he was traded from a WAY more notable organization than Washington. And he probably wasn't as good a prospect either. Brett Anderson too, which could be a more apt comparison.

True. However that might be due to the coaching from each's farm system. Maybe the Ray's have better instructors/teachers than the Athletic's organization. Doesn't take away the talent from the many prospects now in the Athletics' farm system.
That may all be true but i'd rather have major league success over heaps of minor league talent.
Haha doesn't everyone. Hopefully the A's can turn it around.

All of these. I'm with phillyfan on taking ML experience.

I know we have alot of guys who want the Prospects, but it really hasn't worked out well for Oakland lately. Or KC, SD and Houston. And I just don't understand the urgency of trading Gio NOW. You waited for him to hit his stride, not walk a guy every inning or so, and THEN ship him out? Even if you got 4 good MiLers for him, he's got CyYoung-type stuff IMO and that can't just be replaced that easily... :?

idk I was hoping they would have traded him to the Reds for what they gave up for Latos than this. I def. like Cole but am not that high on the other guys and Norris I would have loved if it was 2009, not now. At least these guys are close to Big League ready along with Parker and hopefully we can get some bats for one of those guys this next year.

I have a fear that the Cal League will not be friendly for Cole as he is a flyball pitcher. I do like him a lot and I have 8 or 9 elite autos but the Cal League is not easy to pitch in.

but is it really if we can get a bat to make us playoff contenders. Yes we lost some good players, but we have a 1-2-3 of Strasburg, Zimmermann, and Gonzalez under contract for the next 4 years. Yes we gave up alot, but we still have Purke, Solis, etc to go in the 4 and 5 slots. We have Ramos and Flores at catcher already. If the nats can get the piece to make them true playoff contenders, I am all for this trade

Nats give up their #2, #3 & #5 prospect plus Milone for a pitcher who has walked more batters than anyone the past 2 years...agreed Oakland made out in this deal
Uhh, who still managed a WHIP of 1.31

Sometimes you have to overpay for talent, and Gio is a stud.

Nats gave up to much in my opinion... I am a real Milone fan. Could be a #3 starting pitcher, Norris has potential if he can bring up his average (power is there). Peacock has the potential to be a strong #2 and Cole is a young, power arm.

Great trade for the A's.

Well here we go again. Another trade...

At least now I get to see him come to town a few times a year when they play the Mets. I am however definitely looking forward to getting a Gio Nats jersey.

I think its fine to get prospects but the issue is why cant they turn that into success at the ML level? This happens, like a few have said, every few years with the A's and the results are the same. So either they dont have the eye for talent they are reputed to have or they have lousy instruction.

It doesn't turn into MLB success because they deal the guys before all of them hit their stride together. They seem to have an eye for talent, just no money to keep it.
