Sean McAdam and other Boston sources hearing that even without an extension, the trade will likely NOT be voided

I didn't think so....I'm sure the Red Sox will pay him handsomely, they will just wait until the season starts..

Essentially it's up to whether or not Gonzalez wants to test the Free agent market.

The Sox won't want to give up these players for a rental, and Gonzalez wants Teixeira length and Howard money.

Yes, pristine...and slabbed. ;)

How much does A-Gon want, anyway? These guys need to learn a little humility. VMART was offered $42 million-- not good enough. Such was the case with Damon and Pedro. WTF do these guys want to buy? Sad. At $20,000,000.00/year, Manny averaged over $110,000 PER BASE HIT. And if he goes 4-4? How many of us will make that in 10 years? And he does it in one night? And these guys complain about being mistreated by ownership?

The business of baseball is the definition of greed in our society.

If you were in their position, you'd be doing the same thing.

In the end, are we all the same? Greedy bastards?

Deal is not dead to anyone on Yawkey Way (according to Twitter).

Here's to my original hope that this is a wink and a handshake deal between the Sox and Adrian to agree to the trade, and hold off on the extension until April 15 to avoid the Luxury Tax calculations.

Neither team has reported that it is dead, only reporting citing sources. Until one team says its dead, it is still very alive. Gonzalez ends up in a Sox uniform, whether its today, a week, or a month, he is the starting 1B at Fenway on opening day

Heyman: Werth to nats is a blow to #redsox. Could revisit a-gon but word is spread in years was large (gonzalez wanted 8 yrs)

Olney still believes that Gonzalez will be in a Sox uniform come opening day. I think the Werth deal picks up the pace. It forces the Sox to accept that they need to go 8 years on a guy of this talent

give him 8 years, but the last 2 are club options based on performance, like Papi did. only makes sense for both sides. seems like a logical compromise that A-Gon should take. who wouldn't want 6 years guaranteed in Fenway with 2 option years, assuming he's still producing?

I kind of understood where Theo may have been coming from........until I saw that Werth deal.
After seeing that.....it looks like that contract Gonzalez was asking for was a bargain.

And honestly....if they don't meet Gonzalez's demands, what happens then?
They bring back Beltre? But isn't that most likely going to be another situation where they are over-paying at the back end of the contract? Signing Gonzalez long term seems to be a much better deal in terms of the future.
Or do you let Beltre walk too.....and go patchwork yet again? Not sure Sox fans are going to be happy with another "bridge" year.

I say save some cash to improve parking and toilet facilities at Fenway, get Soriano in the pen, put Papi at first and bring Rizzo up to DH and rattle Pesky Pole a bit. Oh, and sign Crawford and trade for Upton. Yah. That sounds good to me. And hell, if Papi gets tired, we got young Lars ready to step in.

I can't imagine the backlash Theo would face if the trade fell apart now. Again, it all leads back to letting Victor to walk for a bargain price.

He would have to get Cliff Lee and Crawford if Gonzalez isn't coming here.
