Goodwin Gypsy Queen Mini Set Tournament: Round 1 Is Complete

Okay, here is the 36 team field for this tournament:

Round 1 pits three teams against one another at a time (#1 through #3, #4 through #6, ...#34 through #36). The highest overall score in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

You are welcome to score your own team/group, but my tally will be the official outcome.

Again, the basic scoring is as follows:
5 points for the team who has the highest raw total for their player/manager/ballpark/franchise in that given line
3 points for the 2nd highest raw total
1 point for the 3rd highest raw total

In the event of a tie for any given line, those teams will each receive full points for their place finish (5 points for a tie for first or 3 points for a tie for 2nd)

If there is a tie in the overall score between 2 or more players, we'll run a new matchup altogether as a tiebreaker.

Please note the semifinal wildcard entry in purple. The 10% penalty means that their total score for the 2 rounds in the semis will be docked by 10%. This is in place to give a slight advantage to the 2 teams who qualified for the semifinals by beating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals.

I know this isn't official but I think I got the 19-21 matchup correct.
69Metsfan won in a landslide from all of the combos.

All of my OFers are in the HOF. It doesn't look like I get any bonus points for that though.

My understanding is that if you won the positions it would be a 50pt bonus

That's exactly how you do the basic scoring. Next, you go through the bonus scoring chart to see how many other points you've earned. Remember, the combos only apply if all entries in the combo (players/managers/ballparks) are from the same franchise!

To the contestant with the all-HOF outfield, this means that you would only earn the combo points if 2 or more of them were from the same franchise. Either way, you'd still earn 15 bonus points just for them being HOFers (5 points each, according to the chart).

Yes^ Take a look at the gold colored bar at the bottom of the bonus chart. All teams are eligible to receive bonus points.

Do you get a new random team every round, or do you stick with the same squad all the way? I think I (22) won my first round, but my team is not good. I beat a team that had Hank Aaron and Barry Bond sin their OF! Bonds is ranked WAYYYYYYYYY to low!

You get a new team each and every round. Just because a team may be stacked with HOFers doesn't mean they'll necessarily have a good score (not counting combos)! It's all about their career hit/strikeout totals for that franchise. Bonds is the all time hit leader for a Giant left fielder, but his raw total of 1,951 is only good, not great.

Fun stuff but I have to agree that Bonds is way underrated in this statistical analysis. It may be true for the way you are analyzing but something is off with the methodology when Bonds comes out as "good not great".

That said, I'm pretty sure I lost even if Bonds was properly placed :lol: :lol: :lol:

***Teams 31-36 did not play Round 1 since they all belonged to me. Since I was guaranteed to advance 2 teams, there wasn't any point in spending time on it for Round 1.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions. I went through each matchup very carefully, and am confident that all outcomes are accurate.

FYI, whenever a HOF and/or historical ballpark combo applies, you only get the highest valued combo. You don't get both the regular combo (P/MGR, IF, whatever) and the HOF combo. Same goes for the historical ballpark. If it doesn't match up with the same franchise, you get 50 points, if it does, 100 points.
