So I'd been wanting an '08-09 SP Authentic Blake Wheeler Future Watch card for a while. I checked recent closings on auctions and most were in the high-teens.

So I see one with a BIN of $39.99 and figure I'll make a high-teens offer. I offer him $17.50 and he immediately counters with $27.50!!! REALLY!?!?!

In the meantime, I decide to see if there are any regular auctions running and find one, it was at $9.99 with about four hours left, so I set my snipe, basically willing to pay $18.50 or so for it...

...needless to say, for $12.50, this bad-boy should be coming my way very soon!!

He dropped his price 31%. Did you make a counter after the offer or just leave it at that.

I've made offers to guys before that ended up being twice what they got out of the card. I'm rather unlucky w/ offers.

He did drop it quite a bit, but it wasn't anything close to the current going rate. None of them had closed for over about $18.50 in the past month, so my initial offer was about what I was willing to pay.

I had my eye on the one at auction before he made the counter, so I figured I'd take my chances with that one before countering again.

Maybe more my issue is sellers not willing to work closer to what going rate is. Ultimately, it's their card and they can do what they want, which is fine, but in the end, it was his loss.
