I'm wondering how many times you have cracked a case to resubmit a card and actually got a higher grade.

I've got a couple 9s that I really thought should have been 9.5s and I'm tryin to decide if it's worth resubmitting.

That's why the bulk submitters don't get cards slabbed if they are less than a 9.5 (because of having to crack slabs).

For example, let's say you submit 100 raw chromes of your favorite prospect with a MG of 9.5. 40 of them get slabbed, but 60 are rejected. How many of those 60 do you think will now get a 9.5 if they are resubmitted again? Do you think you are really going to go 0 for 60? Of course not.

To me, it's not a matter of how many times to resubmit a card: it's a matter of whether the increase in the slabbed card can be recouped by grading fees (including shipping, insurance, etc.).

If you have a card that sells for $500 raw and $800 as a 9.5, it is worth it to try to resubmit the card 2-3 more times after the first rejection.

If it is a $50 raw card that sells for $80 as a 9.5, it probably isn't worth it to try to bump that card, as you will already have 2 grading fees sunk into the cost (for one resub).

To be honest....I look at the entire order and ask if the grader was just having a bad day. The "grader of death" can destroy an entire order....unfairly I might add. If that is the case, I tend to send the cards back if I felt strongly it deserved a higher grade the first time around.

You have to look before cracking the slab. I have seen PSA and BGS ding a few corners....I think it happens when the card is placed in the slab.

I think it is worth sending a card back only once....cracked from the original slab. There are a few exceptions to the rule, if it is a high-end card (but not a super-fractor or other 1/1) that sells for at least $200...maybe $300 or more....you might try twice. You have to be careful not to sink $30 of grading fees into a $50 card.

For a few people, I know the third time is the charm....but in my book, it is only worth it if you get the "grader of death" on back-to-back orders. If that is the only card (or one of a few on a large order) under-graded on a order after two tries...you are most likely incorrect in your assessment of the card's condition.

I cracked this gold refractor for darocker80....it was clearly a 9.5, the card was nearly perfect and I was shocked it got a BGS 9 the first time around. Again, with such a high-end card it was well worth the $10 to send it back to BGS.

One of them might not be worth resubmitting because of its current value, although it is a gold refractor and I still feel strongly that it should be a 9.5 and not a 9. I might resubmit it based on future potential.

Another one is about a 35 dollar card that graded 9.5, 9, 9, 9.5. Looking at it now, I feel like the two 9s might have been gifts. Probably won't re-sub that one.

And the main one I'm thinking about is the one I was most confident about the first time I submitted it. It's very rare and it's probably about a hundred dollar card with more potential so I think it's definitely worth cracking.

I usually ask someone who has a better eye than me - hint hint, rainmanesq, to look at my cards again before I crack them or resub them for re-evaluation.
