Nothing worse than the Autograph Hounds who stalk Minor Leaguers at Roger Dean Stadium home of the Class A Jupiter Hammerheads.

I had one guy bragging about how he spent hours getting drunk with a player at a bar and then met up with him outside his hotel for autographs. He sounded like such a groupie.

Good read, and I think he hit the nail on the head for most famous athletes. However, it's almost hypocritical to admit you sit and sign for money, then complain that people are asking for autographs to also make money. One thing I do agree with is that there are far too many low lifes willing to step over little kids so they can get a auto to flip. Personally, I would not blame any athlete for refusing to sign. And, I for one, would NEVER ask/stalk for an autograph when a handshake and a smile would last me a lifetime.

"But understand one thing - with my signature, sell it or not, that item increased in value from $10 to $100."
I think he may be overestimating himself.

For what its worth - I think you will find most autographed Mike Schmidt balls sell for over $100 at retail or hobby store, on ebay $30 - $100 depending upon a legit cert or authenticity.

Yeah but he was talking about directly after he signed for a fan. After being sent to PSA they still only sell for $55 which probably covers the cost to send it to PSA.

I think you are reading too much in to this.

My take on it is that he was just throwing out loose numbers to make a point. Not really trying to define exactly the current selling status of any given circumstance. In which case, he is right.

And he is a hypocrite. "I don't like that my autograph is worth a lot but I'll sign at shows if you pay me $90."

Agreed, I even stated that in my initial post above.
