Been working on my new player collection. All 5 of these were waiting in my mailbox tonight. Here's some issues you don't see everyday...

That Hires Rootbeer is AWESOME! :o

Yeah, can you believe I found that on Sportlots.com? Saw it listed, and emailed the seller to request a scan. My jaw about hit the ground when I saw the condition and that the tab was still attached, seeing as it was listed for $35.00. That was a steal. In case anyone is wondering about those, they were inserted in 6 pack cartons. The tabs allowed the cards to stand up out of the carton. Finding these with the tabs still attached is somewhat difficult.

Love the Venezuelan!

Me too! First I've ever owned. You just don't see these much. In Latin America, the collecting norm was to glue their cards into albums that were sold along with the cards, so finding them without back damage is the trick. It was interesting to hold one and see what a different card stock they were printed on. The 64's were easy to tell, since they had black backs instead of orange, but that's not the case for other years. Very interesting issues, and impossibly tough to find in NM condition. VG is the norm. Mine is probably EX.

Oddly enough I had just posted a '64 in the "Post a card you're convinced no one else has..." thread before seeing your thread...it's my ugliest '64...staple holes!

Of course there are the Venezuelans that say "Printed in USA" as well:

Great cards.
Not many collectors realize the 2003 Bowman Heritage rookie subset was styled after those Hires Root Beer cards.
Here's a comparison:

How many collectors under 20 would even know what a "knothole gang" was?

Wasn't that also the design for the 1956 Bowman set that never got made? I thought so, but I could be wrong. (and it would make sense to use it for a Bowman heritage set...)

Yes, while they are remarkably similar, the actual design is identical to the concept for '56 Bowman.
