Very sad news. I enjoyed watching him play this year and he really looked like he was improving.

Disgusting that their have been 50 auto sales on eBay all on the 21st.

Terrible news. I don't see the issue with people buying his autograph, cards serve a different purpose to everyone and if someone wants to buy one to remember a player, who are we to judge them?

After the Wilson Ramos kidnapping and now this..... will MLB teams try to limit the travel of these young prospects?

Guys with money travel to places where people have little to no money.... recipe for disaster. Sadly we have seen it twice this offseason. Not saying the stabbing was money related.... but too many bad things can happen.

And Rotterdam, Netherlands doesn't fit that bill. At all. Comparing it to Venezuela is an enormous stretch.

Domestic disputes (as this seems to be) can happen anywhere. You can't keep players from going home. Nor should you.

Hmmm, the Netherlands is a place where people have little to no money? What?

The Netherlands is much safer than the US, not sure what you're talking about...

Agree.
And Halman was from there, he was home. How could you tell your players not to go home during the off-season?
RIP Greg. Sad news.

I remember going to a Rainiers baseball game a few years ago, it was one of his first games there. He had a fantastic game, he made a great outfield assist, he went two for four with a stolen base. After the game while hanging out where the players come out I had a ball in one hand and a pen in the other and was trying to get autographs, everyone ended up walking by me and signing for other people but he saw me, stopped autographing for other people, took the ball from my hand and autographing it and said "did you enjoy the game?" I said yes. he wondered if I got any other autographs and I said no, he said I hope to see you again and left. Unfortunately, I never made it to another game and I didn't get any other autographs that day but it didn't matter to me, I was a fan of his from then on. I am deeply saddened that he passed away, he was a fantastic person and a good baseball player.

From what I understand, he was killed in Holland (that's in Europe, not central or south America) by his brother.

Lets just put these players in jail from November to February.

Reminds me of the Yanks fan who killed his brother for his cap.

Very sad :(

Met him several times over the years in the California League and Spring Training. Have a bunch of in person autographs. Like his peers have said, always smiling. Great ambassador for Baseball in Europe. One of the most talented and gifted athletes you will ever see play the game. Glad he got a chance last year, the strikeouts were really the only thing that would ever slow him down.

So sad, I had the pleasure to meet Greg in 2008 while he was playing in the cal league. I was just getting into sports photography and I had printed out some shots from a previous Mavericks game. and I asked him to sign one of his photos he went on about how awesome the shot was and he couldn't of been nicer.

RIP Greg.
