Just wondering,i had a friend lastweek who went to a show and has a machine and marker to check the money. He checked all 20's-50's with machine and marker and evrything seemed good.He made about 400.00 and deposited the money into his bank and he was told the next day that he had 2 fake 20's and 2 fake 50's.
The bank kept the fake cash and the police were notified and he took the machine and marker with him to the bank and the money passed the test with his machine and marker.

Just a heads up if you have these type of machines/markers,you might want to want to get something new.

Wow, crazy story. Any word why his machines and markers worked on it but the bank found it to be fake?

Probably washed money. Meaning its really 1's, 5's or 10's with 20 and 50 printed on them

The markers simply test a chemical reaction and I would imagine the machines do the same thing.

A one dollar bill is valid paper, and many forged bills are bleached out ones and reprinted with $20-100.

The stripe is still a key element and the watermarks on the newer bills.

The washed money is the new thing going around. A guy we sell product to (I have a wholesale bakery) got a 20 that was really a 5 from selling stuff randomly to someone on the street. You could see the watermark 5 still. It's pretty sly for sure.

I think his bank screwed him over, granted a teller might miss this when they are counting or in a rush but to find it the next day and pin point this one transaction to him is pretty far fetched. Even the best fakes are still pretty noticable more than anything they feel different than real money you can just tell the difference hard to explain. Also the best solution is to hold them up to the light to find the strip and watermarks in the bills I have never seen a counterfeit bill have them. Also alot of times counterfeiters duplicate the serial number on all of the bills so that is also something to look for. I am curious as to why his machine nor counterfeit pen did not mark them black or detect it. The pens are pretty good but if you use them on regular paper/leave uncapped then they are basically worthless.

The government should just ban paper checks (check fraud and chargebacks are the biggest pain in my @$$ as a banker) and paper/coin money and get everything to being electronic, would make life so much easier of course all the crooks and con artists would move to hacking debit/credit cards and unfortunatley there are plenty of those scumbags as it is.

One of my customers once said, "A theif is trying to steal your money 24 hours a day, while you spend very little time protecting your money each day."
