Never a pro stadium, but I played on a few minor league fields back in high school. We also flew down to Orlando every year for spring training in Disney's Wide World of Sports. That was just a beautiful complex, and we always go to play on the Braves ST field at least once. That was always a ton of fun, especially considering we were missing a week of school for it.

Same here, it was awesome, especially playing center field and looking behind you seeing the huge scoreboard and everything. It was such a great experience.

I've always wondered if I could hit a home run at a major league ballpark - has anyone done it before, and is it tough?

I bet if I got lucky during the middle of batting practice, I could drill one, MAYBE into the first row in the Dome, in left field.

I am friends with a guy, same age, that can hit these crazy home runs. Once he plopped a dimple ball over the fence, in cold rain. It is insane what I have seen him do. When he hits homers, he KILLS the ball... I bet he can get one out in the dome.

It's too bad though, we have a pro scout in town, but we are a ways away from Cretin-Durham Hall so we get no attention as far as professional sports... we had one guy with a minor league contract with the Twins, but I don't think he played long, and we have one guy playing for the Iowa Barnstormers... and another who is at NDSU who may make the pros.

Someone from our school was tearing up out on Cape Cod though...

In little league once we played at the Astrodome for the championship. In the middle of the game the Astros came on the field to play their game and they tried to throw us off. One of my friends would not leave the field and was running around the field in order to elude the officials. We got the entire crowd to chant "Let them play, Let them play!!! They eventially let us finish the game.

I think I have heard of you, Engelbert!!

I got to play on the Pro fields at Dodgertown in Vero Beach. Not official MLB field but a Pro field where MLB players train. It was an incredible experience. I typically only have warning track power and never even got close on the main field. I crushed one to left on the field with no fence. I wish I knew the distance of that hit. Even Bruce Froemming said "Boy you hit that one a mile" when I got to second base. I was thrilled to get that coment from a former MLB umpire. :-)

Well when it comes to basketball, I have shot hoops on the Dallas Mavericks AA Center court.

I did take a free throw at Target Center, and I missed.

I missed too. Eh, who cares?

I played many games on Wrigley Field during the time I worked for the team. We had many games out there including pick up baseball and football games during company picnics etc.

And yes, I had the chance to get good wood on one and watch as the ball made an arc in the sky and head towards the left field bleachers. I saw that ball bounce into the 5th row and just thought to myself I could die now because there wouldn't be a greater feeling in the world than getting ahold of one in Wrigley Field and watching in drop into the outfield stands!! I was in awe the first time I stepped on the field and over time became jaded by the opportunity I had on a daily basis. I seemed to forget that many would love to have the chance for just one minute on the field and here I am with access to the hallowed ground. I may have been jaded by the field but I will never lose that memory of hitting one in the bleachers. Good thing I had witnesses who can tell me I wasnt dreaming!!!

That's cool!

If the team gets to go to the Dome this year, I will be along for the ride. I doubt I will join up this year, but I will be along to help out if they let me (which means I can take BP to help the fielders).

Not baseball but I went to a football camp at Soldier Field when I was young. It was Jim Harbaughs camp and as a suprise guest Jim Kelly was there. I got to run several routes for both QBs and I kicked some field goals. I made 1 of 3 but that one was from 25 yards out

I played in a wood bat baseball league in Durham at the ORIGINAL Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the one where they shot Bull Durham.

I stood on the mound where Nuke Laloosh was taken deep (and i too have been taken deep there (but right field is total BS, it was maybe 280 down the line now that the fence isn't as tall (not that I'm bitter or anything :)))).

My best highlight over 1 season (10 games) was probably a one hopper off the fence in left that i stretched into a triple in our championship game. We won, and I will hold that memory dear.

Go Durham Orioles!!!

Ive practiced at Oakland Coliseum in 1983/84 with my American Legion team, and hit about 10-15 aluminum bat HRs in batting practices if not more, this was when they had a grass hill way out beyond center, before they enclosed it in.

Ive played in about 6-8 Japanese Major League stadiums, and once hit a ball completely out of the old Osaka Stadium in a game in 1984.
see this link (below) of the "12 Worlds Weirdest Stadiums", Osaka Stadium is listed at top of page with pics
http://www.thisblogrules.com/2009/12/12-worlds-weirdest-stadiums.html
(home plate would be at bottom of the orange road, I hit the ball out of stadium between the "City" sign and the light tower in right. In reality it was only about 450' but was fun to watch :)

Ive played at dozens of Minor League parks up and down the West Coast too.

FYI many High School and College fields are larger than the average Major League Field, I played at one that was 350 down the lines and 420 in center with wind often blowing in, not to mention no hitters backdrop and bad lighting. If you hit 5 HRs back then you led your team. The oldschool Green Eastons are nothing like these double walled Demarini bats of today, I also messed around with wooden bats in HS batting practice (overstock left over from when they switched to aluminum), a wooden bat will hit the ball as far as a Green Easton, but the sweet spot is much smaller.

I also used wooden bats in tryouts back in mid 80s before I was drafted and hit some of the farthest HRs Ive ever hit with any bat.
