There was a time when the mention of 1/1's, game used cards, pack issued auto cards, $1 packs, etc would have caused laughter from collectors, dealers and companies.

So, what type of "outside of the box" ideas might you have? The more wacky the better and even if they may have happened in the past (but hasn't since), list it.

Here's a few of mine:

1. Collect four print plates of a player and redeem it for a special 1/1 only possible through this method.

2. First collector to get all four pieces of, say a 52 mantle "puzzle", wins the actual card. But here's the challenge, there's only 5 of each piece. Imagine the bidding wars.

3. A set like Archives should have some current players posing like famous card photos from the past. So have Trout pose like mantle from '52 topps, Tulo like Pee Wee Reese jumping Bowman issue, etc.

Make a variation set from 1952 to the players rookie year and card looks like that year
Same photo, different card year.
so Jeter would have cards that looks like 1952 Topps to 1991 Topps...
Harper 1952 - 2011
Rusney Castillo 1952 - 2013
Andre Dawson 1952-1976 & 1997-2015

Have a few card numbers in a set that are missing and if collectors contact Topps about the missing card numbers, they will send them the cards towards the end of the year (similar to the 1933 Goudey Napolean Lajoie).

Collect an entire limited edition insert set and send the set in for an upgraded parallel version of the set. Plus, you will get the set you sent in back with a special stamp (similar to 1995 Score Gold Rush upgrade to Platinum).

Bring back a huge "topps total" like set BUT break it down into all 25 or so topps products with each card exclusive to a brand (cross brand set).

They did it with the HR history cards for Alex Rodriguez and anyone who chased the set remembers how difficult and pricey some of the cards were dependant on the brand.

Since this idea would include just about everyone in the majors, it would cover a ton of PC's and make the set a worthwhile challenge.

1) topps metal-leaf parallels - instead of the gold parallel being gold-colored bonded sparkle material or gold-colored foil like the past or current versions, why not 24K gold leaf? You could also have aluminum leaf, copper leaf, etc. parallels.

2) Topps Flashfoward (year). How abot Topps Flashforward 2040, for instance? A 200 subject set using designs that Topps thinks might be used in 2040 or whatever the year of interest is for the
flashforward.

In other words, a future retro set that looks like the current year.

Polonium parallels!

Could also double as glow-in-the-dark parallels!

Here's a unique one. how about fulfilling all redemption's from one product before the next one goes live.

Some good ideas. I'd be happy with Topps just doing away with redemptions.

A really good idea would be if they put a small photo on the back of memorabilia cards of the actual jersey or patch piece that it came from and ....... oh wait

I actually think this would increase the "value" of a relic card... sad but true.

Now that Topps has brought back the lenticular 3-D effect of the old Kellogg's cards in some inserts, they need to bring back the lenticular motion effect that Sportflics so painfully failed to use effectively.

- transparency 'printing plate' cards, you have to get all 4 & stack them to see the card in full color

- cards where some normal people see the uniforms as black/blue, and troubled people see the unis as gold/white

- USB cards, thick stock cards with a pull out micro usb drive.

- a thick acrylic card filled with water, like a 2D snow globe

Topps Rainbow - 90 total colors, 10 different colors with 9 different shades, think of how cool your binder would be

Topps Perfect Game - like Moments & Milestones, but only of PG performances. 27 cards for 27 outs, with a complete recap of each at bat

Topps Redemption - every card is a redemption card

Topps Totality - a card of every person to every appear in an MLB game

Topps needs to increase the sharpness of the image using lenticular technology first. I swear the images on Kelloggs cards look sharper than the Topps cards.

more like:

Topps designers in 2015 ponder what a Topps card in 2040 (if that's the flashfoward year used in the release) would look like, design-wise. The release would feature that design, offer 2015 MLB players, and be released in 2015.

Of course if Topps is around in 2040 (hahaha), they can do whatever design they want then. Thus, why the 2015 release is called "Flashforward 2040" instead of "Topps 2040" to avoid confusion when Topps uses a different design in 2040..

I like some if these , but the cards would be white n gold !

The transparency , rainbow , perfect game and totality are some good ones.

To go along w the PG ones , a HR one where Mays had 660 different or Aaron 755 , Etc ... Kinda like the way they did the 99 Topps ones w Mac n Sosa but for career and each photo shows the exact AB (as close as they can) would be cool, and a tough chase. Do the top 50 HR hitters or so.

Some of these ideas are awesome and makes me wonder why Topps doesn't do any focus groups. Oh wait, I do know why
