I have been contemplating selling off my entire collection for some time now. The truth is that I have some credit card debt that has been hanging over my head for a while now that I would like to pay off. I would also Love to start making double payments on my car to help pay that off as quick as possible also.

SO, have you ever sold off your entire collection?

How did it go?

How did you get back into the hobby?

I am not sure what I am going to do at this point, especially with it being the worst time of the year to be selling prospects.....

Wait like 2 months until it is a lot better time to sell prospects unless you are in extreme dire need right now.

I have not, but I strongly suggest if you do, that you take the time to list out each individual card. I would also begin by placing them on this sites auction site, since you would be hit with no fees except Paypal. Also january is not the best time to list auction style.

Spend the time doing it right, and you will make the most amount of money

If their a card you do not think you would be ever able to get back, maybe hold on to that card.

which "auction site" are you talking about? just want to make sure i am clear on what you are saying?

I agree with all of this. I think I will likely give members here a first shot at anything they would want, along with posting on collectors revolution....

There is not much point listing everything on ebay right now as you stated.

I will likely hold back about 2-3% of the stuff that I really like, and start to move the rest. I figure that most of the stuff that I have, I will be able to replace if I really wanted to.

Two times to be exact. Once in 1995 and once in 2005. I am just now breaking back into the game. Slowly but surely. Married with 2 small children now, it seems harder to part with the greenbacks though ;) lol

I would start by listing stuff on Collector Revolution and making posts on the transactions page so you can avoid the ebay fees.

I've been uploading to an ecrater store...while it is "live" I haven't really unveiled it yet. It's free, you set your own parameters, it's easy to use, and you can take many different forms of payment (PayPal, GoogleCheckout, RevMoneyExchange, cash, check, money order). It can take some "marketing" footwork. People won't find it as easily, but it may be worth a look. You could list your items and link in your signature line.

Yep, 3x...college $, law school $, + to fund my business. Some was sold on ebay, some was sold to dealers, some was sold to friends, some was sold via craigslist, some was sold via message boards. Went very well + made more than expected. Better to sell cards individually to maximize your $. If you don’t have the time, consider consigning the job out to someone to sell your collection for you- however, that will cut into your bottom line. However, it saves you the time of scanning, shipping, answering buyers’ emails, etc. + maybe that tradeoff’s worth it for you. I’ve taken on collections + sold them on consignment for people and it’s worked out well for everyone involved.

Consider selling your collection @ shows- national’s the best place, but some of the Chicago shows are also decent.

Didn’t really get back into the hobby (@ least not as a collector) but rather it became a biz for me.

Would hold off until late feb-mar to sell your prospect stuff unless you just want to get rid of it now.

I did last year, I was able to hold on to some of the PC angel stuff. I did well and am very happy with the outcome. My main goal was to spend my time on other stuff, which i did for a while. My second goal was to buy a new camera, which i was able to do in about a week and a half. It was around 2500. I also paid for a trip for the wife and I. overall I made 5-6 grand and most the Angel stuff was untouched. Only regret getting of the Conger orange but it is now graded and in a good home.

I started coming back with more Weavers and angels. Still dont open as much as I did, Though i am opening more and more. I have thought about doing it again, who knows, sometime it is just nice to have movement,

Good luck with what you choose.
