What made up an LCS back then?

It was my summer job when I was in college
Also worked at the baseball academy with summer clinics and loading hitting cage machines (card shop was in same facility)

We sold boxes of the major 4 sports and that Classic 4 sport stuff
Sold singles as well
so did some of the more expensive FB/Hockey/Basketball packs (shaqs, DRob, OPC Hockey, Favre)
think we basically sold at 50-70% book price back then

The 86-87 fleer basketball was what kept us in business since my brothers and I bought that stuff when nobody else cared

we also did monthly card shows

we did quite well selling commons from 74-late 80s (people back then liked to collect sets and auto cards were basically non existant)

In regards to Albert Pujols rookies, I don't think anyone expected them to blow up and keep going the way that they did. One thing was certain, for quote a while, the Upper Deck boxes with Pujols and Ichiro rookies, plus two game-used were dirt cheap and one of the best buys.

Everyone was concentrating on the autographs when money profit could be turned with the cheap "entry level" rookies.

In regards to Albert Pujols rookies, I don't think anyone expected them to blow up and keep going the way that they did. One thing was certain, for quote a while, the Upper Deck boxes with Pujols and Ichiro rookies, plus two game-used were dirt cheap and one of the best buys.

Everyone was concentrating on the autographs when money profit could be turned with the cheap "entry level" rookies.

I just remember telling a customer with a Pulos BC auto to sell it at $375 and buy it when it comes back down to $100. I later bought a Pujols BC for $700 and flipped it for $1,250 a couple months later. I was a manager so the owner loved me.

I don't feel bad, as Pujols is a 1-per generation type guy, but man I wish I could go back an buy some stuff.

Not only is Pujols an enormous talent, he is in the perfect baseball setting...St. Louis. People get blinded a lot about New York, Boston, etc...but if you're a baseball star in St. Louis...you're going to go national.

I knew all of this and still sold an SPx redemption Pujols auto for $125 that I got in a trade for the contents of 2 boxes ($180)....sad day.

But, I messed up twice. I have sold every Pujols auto RC I've ever owned for a profit and I still regret it and wish I could buy the back for what I sold them for.

in 2003 Pujols BCs were 500ish, UD's were 4ish, TCs were 17ish, and Bowman Base's were 8

Now before I get into these Pujols stories, remember that up until that time, there was no such thing as mega expensive brand spanking new auto Baseball rookie cards. Now that that is clear:

A then regular customer came in right after 2001 BC was released and showed me his latest buy: PSA 9 BC Pujols auto. I told him it was nuts to pay so much for a brand new rookie. :lol: What did he pay? Like $300

I was opening "mega retail" boxes of 2001 Topps Traded (12 pack mini boxes packed in a gold or blue generic Topps box"). I got them from my dist. for super cheap and just kept opening them. At one point, I remember having a STACK of Pujols TT rookies at like $10 per or less.
