I have shipped over 1000 items internationally. Over 200 to Taiwan alone. The only issue I have ever had was shipping to Canada. I have sent tons of 90s Jordan inserts ($10-$3000 per) and have never had any issue. I usually send Registered for the lower end items and express for the really high end. When reading this post, it looks like the biggest issue everyone has is with the USPS and not the buyers. It is totally up to you. The absolute safest way to ship it would be FedEx. It will probably cost you at least $80-$100 to cover it correctly.

Take it to a UPS store tell them your concerns and let them help you out and make sure you buy insurance not for the 2000 but for 2500.

What would the UPS store be able to offer besides packaging (that they charge an arm and a leg for - both the actual materials and packing the item) that the OP couldn't do himself? And insuring something for more than its worth is just throwing money away. If you need to make a claim, you'll need to prove how much your item is worth, and if it sold for $2,000, you only get $2,000.

He can pack it himself. UPS has always worked for me. And the reason for the $2500 insurance is at that amount UPS handles the package differently than they do packages at the $2000 level and you're able to keep much better track of it. This is due to the NAFTA agreement. The difference in cost is only a few dollars.

You mean this?

Pretty sure that only applies for packages within North America, and is really used for customs purposes.

Yes that's right NAFTA is just for North America Canada Mexico. But when you do the $2500 because of NAFTA you get the SED form filed for free. And with UPS and I'm sure FedEx does it to I've just never use them for this, you don't have to give your tax number or social security number. You're able to use their numbers.

That seems like a lot of extra work just to get "better handling". Not to mention declaring the item at a higher price will result in a heftier duty for the buyer, which won't be good for the seller's feedback...

A big headache that can be avoided by not shipping internationally in the first place ;)

If it is still on eBay, modify the listing to not accept international.

Otherwise, as most everyone here has said, you run the risk of being scammed out of 2grand
