So this week I decided to catch up on my check listing and cataloging of my Doerr collection (found way too many doubles, triples, and even some quadruples---Yikes!). Anyway I've come across a problem with a 2002 Leaf Certified Fabric of the Game Patch that I recently acquired.
Posted about this card a couple weeks ago-what I identified at the time as a 2002 Leaf Certified Fabric of the Game /5

Here's the problem...that serial number isn't listed in Beckett or on my complied checklist for 2002. There's a /5 2003 Leaf Certified FOG, but the closest one for 2002 is one #/4 . And the description for that one doesn't match mine. So is this just a Beckett mess up(wouldn't surprise me) or is it an unlisted card, such as a promo or something? Reason I say that is it has gold foil on the leaf certified logo and on the serial # on the back. Here's a shot of the 2002 #/37 and a close up of the logo on the #/5

So I'm stumped and not sure how to checklist this one...any ideas? Anybody else have problems with the checklist on 2002 FOG? Let me know what you think

Thanks,
Jeff

I would guess that Beckett listed the "Induction Year" card as a print run if 4 when it was suppose to be 5. I looked at mine and all of your markings are correct for a pack inserted card and not a promo or giveaway card.

Hmmmm... You definitely could be right? Is that the difference in the silver and gold logo & numbering? I've looked through eBay and it's seems to be no rhyme or reason for a silver or gold logo/numbering? There are ones on there #/100 and ones that are #/5 that are silver.

Thanks,
Jeff

I would have guessed that the silver and gold were hobby or retail designations but it may not be in this particular case.

Your just fine and George is also correct

The 2002 series is easy to ID as is future years once you know what to look for and how the numbering works
Its when a numbering fails to match where I'd worry

In your case your fine with what I am seeing

Card # 1/5 is the Induction Year Auto (that's what INA stands for) version ( lower right if you look says what year he was inducted- Hall of Fame 1986). Its a 1/1 item as only one card received an auto for Doerr with that particular inscription on it

Cards # 2/5 , 3/5, 4/5 and 5/5 ( 4 total) are the regular Induction year versions with just the prime game used piece
That is labeled by Beckett as

PRIME piece like this were Gold- not silver.
So- 5 total- 1 is an auto and 4 are not.

The bottom one you showed is the Debut Year Version # /37.
Silver is what I would expect the item to show.

Hope this helps-
Jeff

Wow that is both very informative and confusing. Appreciate the insight Jeff, just wish it was categorized different and dare I say normally?

I'm still not sure the gold means Prime thou as there are some on eBay that are Prime and have silver logos/numbering

Thanks,
Jeff
