I was just reading about some of the items.

If I collected him, I'd be all over the odd stuff. Very very interesting.

How about that lot of TWO THOUSAND signed checks?

Have to imagine Topps or Leaf would be all over that lot to cut them up into cards

Some great items there. Not sure I understand the way the extended bidding works. I looked at an item and if I read it correctly the online bidding ended Thursday night, then something ended Friday night and then ultimately the final end was Saturday night? I'm under the weather so maybe it's just me struggling to focus, but I had a hard time following if someone does not mine clearing it up. Thanks

I like how one of the checks from 2002 was to Sports Collectors Digest for a subscription.

If I was a billionaire and dare I say a Cardinals fan, I would buy the whole auction and open up a Stan Musial Museum

Thanks for the link Hullfan!

Using the checks for cuts is an idea I'm sure some of the big companies have in mind. But the lot that could have the biggest impact on the hobby would be the signed holograms:

Stan Musial Signed Holographic Stickers Lot of 180.... Baseball | Lot #81562 | Heritage Auctions

I'm amazed that they're selling these because you could buy them up and put Musial's signature on literally anything.

And to clarify the extended bidding stuff, they each close on different days but after they close anyone who previously bid has 30 minutes to bid again, and each bid extends the close another 30 minutes. They do that to create bidding wars after they close. Luckily Heritage does that on a lot-by-lot basis. On Steiner auctions a bid on ANYTHING pushes the ENTIRE auction back 15 minutes. So they literally take days to close. Very annoying.

30 minute rules apply, meaning that if you bid during normal bidding period you can bid after the "normal" time ends. If the auction ends at 9p Eastern and there is a bid placed the auction extends to 930p, if you had bid during normal you can bid during extended period and extend the total auction time. So if someone places a bid at 929p the closing time is not 959p, thus the 30 minutes extended clock is reset after each bid during the extended bidding. The maximizes the realized price and eliminate the eBay snipe bid process.

2000 signed checks will do nothing to the Stan Auto market; it is not like his signature was ever hard to obtain since he signed for everyone. In fact, people may pay more for an old strong Musial signature rather than those found on recent Topps releases.

The stickers are cause for concern based on possible forgery.

I just wish the lots were smaller. That many items per lot pushes the price too high for me.

This is pretty sad. The widow and the kids really need this money? The WS rings sure because they will be a downpayment on a nice house, but all of his possessions?

I guess I am a different breed of Cubs fan since I grew up in Louisiana. I do not hate the White Sox, I do not hate the Cardinals. My grandmother was a Cardinals fan and we used to go at each other every time they played. I actually root for whoever comes out of the National League Central regardless of who it is when it comes time for the playoffs.
