i know, joke, joke... but,
can you imagine if a rookie came up and broke the single season home run record?
imagine it!
that'd be insane. I would thoroughly enjoy watching that.

Why do we anoint someone the next Chris Shelton when they start the season with a flurry of homers, but when they strikeout too much it is suppose to translate over the whole year?

Just a thought. Sit back and just relax guys.

he could end up being the next shane spencer

Side note, but were your parents related by any chance?

Thanked

It is hard to watch Heyward swing and miss a lot, but there is something that kinda justifies it to an extent, atleast in my mind. Heyward does have 9 K's, but the rest of the team seems to be striking out a more than usual. Compared to the rest of his teammates (sans Chipper and McCann), I think he's doing a fair job for a 20 year adjusting.

I might have a different opinion if it wasn't for the 3 HR's though

Honestly I didn't expect to see this much power from him based on his minor league performance over the last few years. He obviously has some power, but I was thinking more of a 15-20 homer guy whose other 4 tools are what separate him from everyone else who hits 18-22 homers per year. That said, it is still early, but he is on pace for many more than this.

No mater what, h is going to be exciting to follow this season.

Great for Heyward and the Braves with his 3rd HR, but 9 or 10 K's in 24 AB's is troubling. Seems more like Adam Dunn than Willie Mays.

Did you realize the greatest hitter of our generation is on pace to strike out 135 times this year? That's almost 50 more than his previous high for his career.

But people aren't comparing Heyward to him, they are comparing Heyward with the likes of Mays and Mantle, young 5 tool players with tons of power and plate presence. My point is that there is too much hype for the kid, granted it helps the hobby, but in the game of baseball someone who hits HR and K's too much loses hobby love in a hurry, just like Adam Dunn, Chris Shelton and to an extent Ryan Howard who isn't nearly as popular as king Albert.

I wouldn't worry about his K's right now. They are mostly on curve balls in the dirt. That will go away.

I'm not comparing anyone to anybody. I'm just showing that stats this early in the season are meaningless. Good or bad. Do you think Tony L. is worried about Pujols making contact? C'mon he's a 20 year old kid that has played what, 6 games?

pretty good stats for a 20 year old in his first week of pro ball. i think he'll adjust accordingly which may have his power numbers go down a bit but the walks should pick up.

on a side note, the Braves are at the Padres this week. i'm guessing that he'll get at least another dinger based on the pitching that he'll be facing. might be a good time to list some remaining cards at a high BIN in anticipation.

Especially for a left handed batter.

He could stand to S/O out more often. His K/BB is amazing when compared to anyone not named Bonds in terms of recent power hitters.

Did you not see the 2 HR's that he hit opposite field at AT&T Park? Last night - it was pretty much high winds - everyone else's HR shots were getting knocked down.
