Then make it a default "off"? I don't get your reasoning. Why even have that option, then?
*edit to add-In all my years on FCB, I have never heard of anyone complaining about Signatures. Too big? yes, but signatures in general? Never until a recent thread...

This is a valid question.

Why can't you just change the default to off?

Then the only people who will see sig images are those that want too.

Who was the ****** who complained about sigs?

Just deleted my avatar. Might as well go full out bare-bones if this is the new trend. I wonder if I can hide my name and just post as "anonymous"?

Why the protests man? Is it really necessary?

It just seems odd to me that THIS is your sticking point.

Anyway this is an issue I've heard for a long time when I asked people that collect cards why they don't use FCB this is the #1 answer I get. It clutters up the scroll and makes people close the window instead of registering and participating.

What other collecting forums don't have sigs?

And I'm going to keep asking till you answer... Why can't you just set the default for sigs to OFF?

Amen! Set to default off and those of us that want to use or see them can enable them.

This notice is required by law.

Right now, it is not really speeding up anything, as there is just a large blank space where the signature was. I like the signatures, but it won't make me crazy to not have one. Did I miss a discussion about this prior to it happening?

Removal of signature pictures takes away ones identity
For example, Ty Hope, Clemente card, Adam, Recollections auto, etc
I personally think its a horrible move to remove them

How ironic, you ask people that collect cards why they dont use FCB and their #1 complaint is having to look at peoples signatures that MAY include cards??
So they collect cards, however they dont want to bothered by having looking at other peoples cards in every post.
Very odd response from these non-users.

Posted this in the sig thread, but I'll move it here since this is the AMA thread...

How is something that a MINORITY of people wanted a good decision for the boards?

Why don't we just get rid of images altogether?

Then the whole site will be pure text.

That'll be really exciting for all of us who collect cards for the words on the back.

Did it ever occur to you that some people have spent hours on their sigs in Photoshop, etc?

Or that some people have even traded cards or PayPal to have a sig made for them?

I like seeing the signatures, but I would appreciate some kind of size limit. Some are just ridiculous, but if I set to off then I see none of them.

Signature settings have always had size limits when using Option #2 (that is how my sig works right now). Could be useful making that the only option as well as finding a way to default "do not show sigs" as an option to limit whoever can't get past an image on a collecting message board.

Would it be better if when we were not actively using that we log off? Would it speed up for the rest? I'm logged on 24/7.

Are these users people who subscribe to news groups?

Seriously, I just wouldn't mess with it. You have a community of people who enjoy showing off via their signature, and you have a group of people whose reason for not joining is rather petty. In today's world of computer technology and internet connectivity, there's no NEED to do away with sigs.

Sit back and think about it... you are jumping to do away with sigs for people who are long time members for the sake of people who have a problem with seeing images on a type of community that revolves around showing images.

How about you find a way to put a selection item in user registration that allows hiding sigs? Or - you know - explaining to those possible users that the option is there?

Seriously, it takes 3 clicks to turn off sigs:

(1) Hover over "Forum actions"
(2) Click [1] "general settings"
(3) Click [2] the box next to "Show signatures" under "Thread display options"
(4) Click [3] "Save changes" at the bottom.

Seems much more logical than forcing no sigs. :-/
