George Wright played shortstop for the first pro baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings. In 1869, he batted .633 with 49 HRs in 57 games! He later founded the Wright and Ditson company, a sporting goods manufacturer. He went into the HOF in 1937. His brother, Harry, managed the Red Stockings and went into the HOF in 1952.
Earlier this year, somebody found a small trove of documents from Wright and Ditson. These were released on eBay over the year, and several of the documents found their way into other auctions. These are interesting for us HOF collectors because they made a previously-VERY-tough HOF autograph a lot easier to afford. I broke down and bought myself one for Christmas.
I scanned this with my father's crappy scanner, so it looks like a copy here, but the Wright signature is in nice blue ink. Anyway, here is my 237th HOF auto (counting the three recently elected managers; should get to 240 come the announcment on January 8th). Thanks for looking.
