I picked up this 4x6 card today at a flea market. The card is definitely signed, but not sure by whom. It looks like some of his earlier autographs, but I'm not sure. I will let know how much I paid after a couple of responses.

Not very close IMO. Every pre-accident auto I've seen of his is much prettier and has more of a slant.

I picked it up for $7 so if it not authentic, no big deal. Couldn't pass it up for $7 though.

I've been doing some research here.
He looks pretty young in this photo so I wonder what the chances are that this is an early auto?

Unfortunately, almost zero man. The signature shares absolutely zero stylistic traits with known Campy sigs...beyond that, it shows every characteristic of a signature that has been signed in an attempt to copy. Multiple pauses, jagged strokes...there is sadly nothing redeeming about the signature.

The exhibit card is cool though...but, even without the writing on it, it would only sell for a couple of bucks.

edited to add:

To comment about the Campy's age in the photo...the picture was taken in the early to mid-40s...however, that Exhibit card was printed in the exact from style from the late 1940s through the end of the 1960s. Therefore, there is a 20 year window in which the image was being produced and reproduced.

Edited to add an additional comment...
It would appear the signature was made with a fine tip Sharpie pen...they weren't invented when Campy had his accident.

I probably woulda bought it for 7 bucks, too, but I would never spend the 100 that psa/dna wants for authentication because it would most assuredly fail.

Thanks for the info guys.
I agree with you guys in the fact that it is more than likely not authentic.
I looked up Spence's prices and PSA/DNA, and they are $75 and $100 to authenticate it.
I will just throw this back in a box somewhere.
Thanks for the amazing information on the Exhibit cards. If you don't mind can I PM you with some other photos that I have that I cannot find any information on?
