And had he played in the AL during his career, he would have been behind Ripken, Yount, Trammell, and Tony Fernandez! Guess he got lucky to be traded to St Louis! Because had he stayed in San Diego, or was traded to another small market, he had no chance to become the back flipping clown that got him in. Oh, and J T Snow may be the best defensive 1B of all time. Bob Boone was amoung the top defensive Cs, so on, so on, so on.
I know it's a fan vote, the fans usually know a good player when they see one)
They also DEFINE the word fame (as in Hall of Fame)

NL record for votes in All Star Fan balloting in a career: 27,597,904 votes
BTW, maybe you should take the poster of Snow down from above your bed...we get it...you love JT. That poster is probably snowing down on you it's been up there since 93....

TRUE! And Mark McGwire was as famous as any president at one point! Bonds is probably the most hated player since Cobb. At least the voters respected the man they hated in Cobb's day though, he got mor votes in the same inducton year than Ruth! If only voters would have stayed true, and not so easily turned by the fans.
No, I dont see your point. Ozzie is considered the GREATEST defensive SS ever. Those other guys were great defenders but not the Greatest ever at their position. If Ozzie were just a great defensive SS he wouldnt be in.bodiaz said:I say no, but he is one of the greatest defensive CF's of all time. And OZzie got in on defense alone, Andruw has much better #s than Ozzie, so.....
This is my problem with Ozzie getting in! If you let him in then you have to let in other great defensive players with no offense. Perfect example would be Gary Pettis. The best defensive CF of his day, and stole as many bases as Ozzie. Couldn't hit a lick, and he probably didn't get one vote, and rightfully so! Yet Ozzie gets 91% first ballot?!?! Don't see why more people do not have a problem with this. Lets add these great defenders to the Hall of Fame: JT Snow, Mike Matheny, Yadier Molina, Don Mattingly, Jose Lind, Rey Ordonez, Spike Owen, Ed Brinkman, Aurillo Rodriguez, And countless centerfielders. See my point?
I do and I think he should be in the Hall of Fame along with McGwire, Palmiero, Sosa, Clemens etc.bodiaz said:thefatguy said:And had Mr * not taken roids, he'd be stuck at 500 HR's still, and not be considered a pariah.bodiaz said:All Star apperances are fan votes! Wrong on both counts! He was always hated, even long before the roids. And he probably still would have broke Aarons record. The roids hurt him in mnay ways. He was often injured in his later years, his size led to record setting IBB that he would not have received had he not used, meaning more chances for HRs. And he would have played longer because he would not have been black balled by baseball. This is the greatest baseball player you will ever see, and it is a shame that most people do not appreciate the man for his talent.
Funny you mention them, Baseball Reference did an article on the two recently:AndruwHRJones said:As Andruw's career stands right now, I personally don't feel he belongs in the HOF. Now if he can make a run at 500 HR's, it is a different story. It will also depend on how long it takes him to get to 500. If he lingers around for another 5-6 years as a bench player to get the #'s, I would not be sure he deserves it. Unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone is willing to give him a starting job. If Carlos Pena can get a starting job with his stats last year, I don't see why a team won't give Andruw a shot. 19 HR's in 278 at bats, I feel he deserves a shot at a full time DH or OF gig. But of course, I am biased.![]()

Andruw Jones, Carlos Pena, and OPS+ over 100 with a low batting average
