If you are in a position to make a nice profit, I'd take it. He's young and off to a hot start, but you can name a handful of other guys who were "hot" like this once and didn't hold.

This...how well do cards sell of players who do not hit for power? And is it realistic to believe he will sustain his high average? Even if he hits .315 or .320 for the season, the other numbers won't support uber high prices. He's young so power could come, but he will need to develop some patience at the plate as well to deserve Larkin-esque references. He will stop getting strikes if he can't take a ball...that's a fact.

Derek Jeter and Cal Ripken come to mind.

Playing a premium position for a premium team, is adding fuel to his red hot sales. A card going up nearly $100 in sale value in under a week?

Almost as impressive as his season so far.

He's only 21. Power will come! Playing for the Cubbies only adds to his value! Jeter never hit for power and look at his cards.

Postion Premium helps to a degree, but still the no-power thing hurts.

Cal consistently hit 20-30 hr during his peak with a lifetime slugging percentage of .450 (not to mention is one of the most beloved players of my generation)...Jeter is a demigod with a lifetime slugging percentage of .450, consistently hit 10-20 hr, hit for a high average, scored mega-runs (because he walks too), 4 WS rings (I think), almost 3,000 hits...not sure either qualify as light-hitting MI's.

Ichiro does quite well. ;)

He's about the only exception for current players. It helps having a lifetime average of .330 or whatever, and to have his international profile. One could argue Mauer too...but his position is just that much more scarce for premium talent (although some good ones up and coming for sure). Castro winning a battle title or two would certainly help, but that's presumptious right now.

It's going to take a lot to make Starlin Castro the next Derek Jeter. Jeter arrived on the biggest stage in the world at exactly the right moment. When he was young he was a great shortstop and made some incredibly plays. He was a clutch hitter who has a ring for every finger on one of his hands. But, most importantly, he has incredible charm and charisma. He was great with the media, had a lot of great commercials, cameo appearances in movies, dated gorgeous celebrities, etc.

Jeter is the Prince of New York. Can Starlin Castro even speak English? There's a reason the middle of this country is abandonning baseball for football. "Baseball been very, very good to me." was cute, but that was 13 years ago, and enough already.
