the first one listed on ebay went for $475. This one looks to be in great condition.

I got $1070 for a Burgess Red from 07 Draft, so this actually seems cheap compared to that.

Wow, I didn't know that. Well, I guess it wasn't a fluke.

The Wossa man is king.

Thats a little high for me but I think that Borchering is one of the most underrated players in the auto checklist

Why are these auto cards of rookies so much money? They have proven nothing at the major league level. Is it just a gamble?

Well it's certainly not a guarantee.

Prospects almost always sell for more than their better MLB counterparts. Why? Potential for growth. We all know what to expect from a player like Hanley Ramirez...All-Star selections and MVP votes, but prospects can get on a profit filled hype train and never need a shred of MLB success to make a few bucks.

That said...there are about 5 people on these boards that I would respect their prospect opinions and prospect buying/selling history honesty.

I've learned a few things over the years about "prospectors" - that vast majority are foolish and completely jaded.

Borchering has a lot of hypable (just made up a word) upside. Good position, good power.

Of course it could. However, you have to understand that the downward spiral can happen even to superstars in the pros. Look at what happened to Frank Thomas, Mike Piazza, and a few others. They used to outsell everyone in the game at one point but they lost luster with collectors after enduring some average seasons and they fell from the top of the podium.

Prospecting is a highly volatile part of the hobby. You can have a guy that goes from hero to zero in the matter of one season. I think of Matt Antonelli. While some on here may say he was never hyped to the degree that some would consider a "super stud", where I live, there were a handful of guys that really were buying into him and some folks on here were too. I remember getting an Antonelli BCDP red refractor auto in a trade and I had a pretty nice card at the time. I traded it and then it was eventually sold for a few hundred dollars. Now, I doubt you'd get anywhere near that unless I'm really mistaken.

So yes, the Borchering could end up in a common value box in a few years. However, most folks feel that he could turn out to be a very good player. Nobody knows and only time will tell. Thats the nature AND fun in prospecting.

Beastly.

Wossa enjoys himself, some Tim Wheeler. Looks like I will have to wait 'till the next Orange AU, makes an appearance. Since he outbid me on that one, as well.

The auction in question went for $530, correct? (I'm at work and forgot what the price was)

If that is the case, would you rather have ~12 Blue Ref auto's or the Red? (Not asking just you Messier, but a question to the board as a whole.)

It ended for $510+

Well, for the flashy collector...the red all the way! But for the SMART collector...the blue all the way!
