No matter how great your stuff is, you cannot be a dominant starting pitcher with only one pitch (fastball). His slider is mediocre and he doesn't trust his change. He's also blown plenty of close leads late in games this year because he doesn't have anything new to show hitters the 3rd and 4th times through the order. If he wants to be great, he'll improve his slider and/or change. Otherwise, he won't fulfill his potential.

No, his "easy cheese" fastball was his dominant pitch. His slider was always pretty decent, but I think it has actually regressed a little bit since last year.
